I flushed.
“Go get ready,” Micah said, his voice rough.
I frowned, sitting up too.
“Where am I going?” I asked.
“School. Or have you forgotten? Today’s Friday.”
“I’m going to school?” I asked, unable to keep the surprise from my voice. I didn’t think he would allow it. I thought he might want to keep me locked up in this place while he went out and terrorized the good citizens of Sacramento.
He looked at me, still as unreadable and emotionless as ever.
“Do you want to drop out?”
I shook my head quickly. “No.”
“Good. Go get ready. I’ll make breakfast.”
He left the room without turning back to look at me. I stayed where I was in the bed, still reeling.
What the hell just happened?

LAINEY
Everything I had heardabout the enforcer of the King’s Men MC contradicted everything about the man before me, and I didn’t know what to believe.
Were the rumors just nothing more than rumors? Or was he biding his time and hadn’t shown me all the cards in his hands yet?
Or a little bit of both?
Every instinct that roared inside of me said to tread with caution.
I snuck in a side glance at him in the truck as he drove me to school.
My books were back in my bags.
I didn’t even know when he had time to go and get them, and I didn’t ask him.
Out of all the things happening to me, those seemed the least important.
He hadn't said anything since we took off for school.
There was one rumor that was actually dead-on.
They called him a robot.
An emotionless, no-conscience robot. Once he set his sights on you, even the Devil himself couldn’t save you.
I shivered, and Micah focused his pale silver eyes my way.
He gave nothing away but reached out and turned off the AC in his car.
As if I was cold.
I blinked.
