I turned to see him look at Catalina with soft eyes. “How are you, princesa?”

“I’m good, Gabriel.”

“Good. You let me know if those bastards aren’t treating you right. You know you’re always welcome at our house.”

Catalina rolled her eyes, though she was smiling when she answered him. “You know they treat me like a princess.”

Gabriel smiled and tugged on her hair playfully. “Good.”

An announcement came on to ask the guests to find their seats.

Catalina shot me one last smile before waving at us and returning to her men.

I stayed with Gabriel. After a small moment, he leaned down and kissed the side of my head. “Are you enjoying yourself, sweetheart?”

“It’s a nice wedding,” I replied.

“But…”

I shrugged, not really wanting to tell him that I wished we were alone, yet the thought of being alone with him tonight intimidated the hell out of me, for some reason.

He pulled back slightly and searched my face, for what, I didn’t know. After a while, he flashed a small smile that made my heart race, before leading me back to our table perched on a platform that overlooked the backyard.

Dinner passed by in a blur. I let Gabriel feed me bits of everything, and before I knew it, people were getting out of their seats and into the dance floor.

I mostly watched them as men came up to our table to talk to my husband. It was all nothing but business talk disguised as congratulatory wishes. I didn’t really listen to them.

Instead, a couple on the dance floor had caught my full attention.

Kaia and Raphael were dancing together to a slow song.

She was frowning up at him, saying something I couldn’t make out, while he looked at her with a… strange expression.

I tugged Gabriel’s arm to his attention.

He was talking to a man I didn’t know, but he stopped his conversation abruptly as soon as I asked for his attention. So abruptly, I blushed a little, wondering if the other man thought I was rude for interrupting, but the man only walked away.

Gabriel grasped my chin to bring my attention back to him. “What is it,mi cariño?”

For a moment, I almost forgot what I wanted his attention for. Gabriel made me forget myself at the most random times, but then again, no man should have the right to look this beautiful, this lethal.

“Uh…” My thoughts finally caught on to what I wanted, and I pointed my chin at the dance floor. Gabriel followed my eyes. “You have to tell him to leave her alone.”

He frowned a little at me. “That’s none of our business,mi cariño.”

“None of our business?” I pulled away from his touch, and he scowled lightly. I ignored that. “He’ll eat her alive!”

He smirked at me, and I slapped his chest.

“I don’t think she would mind that too much, do you?” he asked. “After all, you don’t mind when I do to you.”

I shook my head, matching his scowl from before with my own. “That’s not what I mean, and you know it.”

He let out a small sigh. “Bianca. They’re both adults. They can consent—”

“Like I consented to this whole thing?” I asked. “This marriage? This party?”

“Careful, love.”
