At this point, I didn’t even think we were dancing anymore.

More like swaying.

“Excuse me, I don’t mean to interrupt, Mr. Cadorna—”

I stepped away from Gabriel when the man spoke. The man blanched when Gabriel fixed him with a dark look.

The man’s gaze shifted about, as if looking for an escape route before standing firm. “A strange man came onto the property. He brought gifts for your wedding, along with a note.”

Gabriel sighed. “I’ll be in my office in a moment. Have it delivered there.”

“Yes, sir.”

The man bowed his head slightly and left, not really looking at me. I briefly wondered if that was because Gabriel had said something about it.

I had noticed a lot of the male guests and staff here didn’t meet my eyes for too long.

“I have to take care of this,mi cariño.”

I nodded, and Gabriel kissed the corner of my lips before he walked off and into the house. Gabriel’s friends also followed him, and I tried to remember their names—Damien, Mikhail, and Nikolay.

I waited for a moment before I followed the four of them. My heart beat loudly in my chest, reminding me that I was doing something I wasn’t supposed to do.

By the time I got inside the house and in front of the office door, they had already gone inside, but the door was still cracked open a bit.

I couldn’t look inside, but I could hear the voices, and I recognized Gabriel’s voice right away.

I was surprised to hear Raphael’s voice; I hadn’t seen him walk into the house with the other men.

I jumped a little when Gabriel slammed his fist on the table.

“Does that mean that they were here and saw Bianca?” Raphael asked.

A second man spoke. Someone I didn’t know very well, and he spoke with a slightly accented voice that wasn’t like Gabriel’s. Russian, perhaps. I was sure Gabriel had told me his friends were Russian.

“This man, this Russian,Ivan Antonov. Have you heard from him since?” A voice asked, dark and low and dangerous sounding.

My fists clenched, my nails digging into my palm.

No one answered him, or if they did, it wasn’t out loud. Then another voice asked, “What are you going to do?”

This must have been directed at Gabriel because he answered, “Keep Bianca close. She’s just said goodbye to her privacy.”

What the hell did that mean?

Why would Gabriel need to keep me close? And why couldn’t I have any privacy? A slight chill went up my spine at that.

I thought I heard someone chuckle as if Gabriel keeping me close was funny.

A third man spoke. “I doubt it will be any hardship, man.”

He laughed again, and I was starting to hate that sound. Why would any of this be funny? Frustration formed, making my heart burn as the man continued, “Exactly what I would expect from the kingpin of the Michoacán Cartel.”

Everything in me froze in place.

I couldn’t have heard him right, did I?

Did he just say…
