Page 146 of Plunge into Obsession

I walked over to my desk and sat. My computer had long automatically shut off, and I didn’t think I had the mind to get back to work right now, even if it was on.

I leaned back in the chair and examined my surroundings.

* * *

Bianca never madeit down to dinner.

My jaw clenched as I took in her empty seat at the dining room table.

Elena had long ago retired to her room for the night, and though I wasn’t alone in this house, it felt like it. The silence had never felt so fucking unrestrained.

I stood, did a quick cleanup of the dirty dishes, and put the leftover food in the fridge. When everything seemed in order, I made my way up the stairs.

It wasn’t until I got to the bedroom that I hesitated.

I never fucking hesitated.

I wanted to see her, but fuck me, I didn’t want to fight with her anymore.

I would much rather lose myself inside her.

It wasn’t like I could avoid her forever.

I turned the knob and looked inside the dark room. Even without turning on the light, I could tell she wasn’t in there.

A quick look at my phone told me she was still on the property.

I moved out of the room and down the hallway, opening the door to each room I came across until I got to one at the very end.

And there she was, sound asleep in the queen-size bed, buried underneath all the covers.

My heart pinched at the sight, and I didn’t fucking know why I was feeling like this.

She hadn’t left me, but it felt like I could finally breathe again now that I had my eyes on her.

I walked over to the bed and gently pulled the covers off. She was in one of her shirts and sleep shorts.

Her face was free of makeup.

She looked younger than her twenty-five years.

Something about the sight made me want to do everything possible to protect her.

Protect her and the baby.

I rested my hand on her still-flat stomach.

She was only a little over a month pregnant.

The baby still didn’t feel real to me, and I didn’t think the baby would until he or she was born.

But Bianca was real.

Real and solid in my arms.

I moved my arms under her, one beneath her neck and the other hooking under her knees as I lifted her into my arms.

She let out a soft sigh and snuggled further into my chest.
