I can’t letyou go, mi corazón, even if you begged me to. But I will bleed the world dry for you. I will do whatever is necessary to ensure you’re happy, but you will have to be by my side.

I thought about his words for the entirety of the morning.

Gabriel was still spending his time at the house, though he had been holed up in his office since he woke up about three hours before.

I woke up when he climbed off the bed and listened to him get ready for his day before he came out, smelling fresh and addictive, and pressed a swift kiss on my forehead before he left the room.

I was a little disappointed by the way we had woken up.

After he’d told me about his family history, I had fallen into a deep sleep, despite having spent most of the day in bed.

I had thought he would touch me, bring me into a place of ecstasy and delirium, but all I got was a chaste kiss and then he was gone.

I had spent most of my morning holed up in the room.

A quick walk to the closet earlier to get changed for the day made me realize the black box was missing.

I didn’t know what Gabriel had done with it, but it was obvious the past wasn’t something he liked to revisit often—or at all.

I didn’t blame him.

I still couldn’t get over his history.

And Luis…

I tried so hard not to think about the man.

Gabriel skimmed over the details, but it was enough to let me know what kind of man Luis was, and Lucinda had been with him the last night I’d seen her…

I shook my head.

I couldn’t think about her because my heart hurt.

A part of me wondered if I could tell Gabriel what was going on, and perhaps he could find out what happened to her.

Surely a man with his resources would be able to find out.

Better than whatever the hell I had been doing for the last two years.

But what if he found out, and it wasn’t so pretty—no, I was certain it wasn’t.

Tears stung my eyes, and I sat up from my position on the bed, feeling trapped in the bedroom.

I walked to the closet again and dug around until I found the swimsuit I had seen a week ago.

It was a white two-piece suit. The top had an intricate string design on the back, and the bikini bottom showed a small swell of my ass.

I struggled a bit to put it on before I grabbed one of Gabriel’s shirts and put that on over it, reaching for a clean, fluffy white towel on the way out.

Elena found me as I took the final steps down the stairs.

“I’m, uh, going swimming,” I said awkwardly.

“Of course, Bianca. Would you like me to make you some snacks?”

I thought about saying no, but it sounded good.

I nodded and looked down at my feet, still feeling weird with her from our last interaction after she’d caught me snooping through the photos.
