He didn’t move to open the car like I expected him to.
Instead, he sat there and watched me for a long moment until he seemed to come back to himself. He made a move to open the door when I stopped him.
“My underwear, Gabriel,” I said, pointing into his pocket where he kept it.
The devilish smile he shot my way told me I wasn’t going to get it back. I held back a groan, and he briefly kissed the corner of my lips and opened the door.
I was careful not to shift around too much in my dress when I grabbed the hand he offered me and let him help me out of the car.
I scowled at him, and his smile widened.
Before I could take a step, he leaned down until his lips touched my ear and said, “Do you have any idea what it does to me to know you have nothing on underneath your dress? I must be a fucking masochist because I am absolutely tortured over the image alone… and I fucking love it.”
He growled the last words, and I shivered against him.
I felt him smile against my skin before he wrapped his arm around my waist and led me inside a baby store.
I followed him in a daze, not really aware of my surroundings, and it wasn’t until we got inside that I came out of my thoughts.
“Wow,” I said, taking in everything.
Gabriel shot me a smile.
This was a baby store?
It was much nicer than some places I had gone to shop for my own clothes before my marriage to Gabriel.
And a quick look around told me there was no price tag on any of the items.
What kind of baby store didn’t show the price tags?
Gabriel didn’t give me a chance to dwell on anything. He led me further into the store like a man on a mission.
A woman working there caught our eyes, and she rushed forward to assist us.
“Hello. My name is Karissa. Have you folks been here before?”
I looked at Gabriel because this might be my first time here, but I didn’t know if that was the case for him. Sure enough, he answered the woman, “Yes.”
Karissa smiled, her eyes lingering a bit on Gabriel before she looked at me, then quickly away, a small blush rising on her cheeks.
I got it.
Gabriel was a beautiful man.
And there was a dangerous aura around him that spelleddirty good time.
Would everyone still look at him like that if they knew the dangerous aura wasn’t a front, but a truth? That Gabriel really was a dangerous man?
I knew it, and still, I found myself falling under his spell at times, looking at him the same way Karissa was.
I blinked when I realized it had been quiet for a while, only to find both Gabriel and Karissa waiting for me.
“I’m sorry. I wasn’t paying attention.”
Gabriel’s eyes were soft, and it was startling to notice that the soft look in his eyes had only ever been aimed at me.
Did that mean something? There could be affection without love, couldn’t there?
