“What the fuck?” I muttered out loud as I took in the scene.

“What?” Raphael asked, having just gotten off the phone with Bianchi.

“Bianca took money from the safe.”

He frowned. “For what?”

I shook my head. “Not for what. For whom?”

I placed the phone down so he could see. A dark look passed over his face.

“Do you know why my wife is giving money to Kaia?”

BIANCA

I didn’t wakeup again until noon, and by then, Gabriel still wasn’t back.

I sat up on the bed and looked around, feeling oddly well-rested.

My phone chimed on the nightstand, and I realized this was what woke me up when I looked at the screen and found three text messages and five missed calls, all from Kaia.

Guilt pushed down on me.

I had been a terrible friend to her.

I was so caught up with all that was going on with me, I didn’t bother to check to see how she was.

I called her back, not bothering to read the messages.

She picked up right away.

“Bianca.”

There was something about her voice that gave me pause. “Is everything okay?”

She didn’t answer me right away. Then, “No.”

I walked backand forth in the huge living room as I waited for Kaia to show up.

She hadn’t said much over the phone, only that she needed my help, and a part of me wondered if I should call Gabriel.

If she was in trouble, really in trouble, how would I go about helping her?

Movement from across the room caught my attention, and I looked up to see Elena standing there, holding a tray of what looked like crackers and a variety of cheese, and behind her was a nervous-looking Kaia.

I didn’t say anything right away.

“Thank you, Elena,” I said.

She smiled at me and set the tray down before she grabbed my hand. “Is everything okay?”

I nodded and squeezed her hand. “Yes. Everything is okay.”

She didn’t look like she believed me, but thankfully let it go. “I’ll leave you girls to it, then.”
