I didn’t miss the hesitation in her voice when she said Raphael’s name, and he didn’t either.

He stepped forward before I could stop him, and Bianca moved back, as if she was scared he would do something to her.

Raphael slowed. “Where did she go, Bianca?”

Her eyes moved around the room, not really landing on either of us. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

“You don’t?” Raphael asked sharply.

I shot him a look. I got that he was frustrated, but I would be damned if I let anyone scare my wife, especiallyin her own home.

He pinched the bridge of his nose and took a deep breath.

“Baby, why did you give Kaia money?” I asked matter-of-factly.

She turned to me. “How do you know about that?”

“The safe is triggered to notify me if it’s opened, and there are cameras in the office.”

“And you didn’t think to tell me that?” she asked, sounding indignant.

I let an eyebrow raise, and she blushed.

Fuck.

She seemed so lost, all I wanted to do was pull her into my arms, but Raphael wanted answers.

“She wanted to run away from him,” Bianca said, pointing at Raphael.

“Why?” he asked.

She turned to him, anger burning in her eyes. “Why? You tell me. What did you do to her?”

“Nothing. I didn’t do anything. Tell me what you know, Bianca.”

She let out a frustrated sigh. “Nothing! I don’t know anything. Okay? All I know is that she came to me scared ofyou. And she needed to get away from you. And you’re telling me you didn’t do anything? Bullshit.”

“Bianca,” I said, a soft reprimand in my voice.

She shook her head. “No. You don’t get to decide for me whether I can help my friend. You told me that money was for me.”

“In case of emergency.”

“Is it mine, or is it not mine? Not in case of an emergency. You told me what was yours was mine, and I chose to use that money to help my friend.”

“Help?” Raphael asked.

I stepped between him and Bianca.

He shook his head. “I’m not going to hurt Bianca, and you know it.”

“No, but you can scare her,” I replied.

She scoffed. “I’m not scared.”

Her expression said otherwise.

She crossed her arms over her chest. “I would have told you about it, had you come home alone,” she said to me.
