Raphael let out a bitter laugh. “I came with him because I want to know why. Do you really think I need your help to find out where she went?”

Bianca blanched. “Just leave her alone. She obviously doesn’t want anything to do with you.”

“She doesn’t have a choice.”

Bianca’s eyes widened before a dark shadow overtook them. She reached down and grabbed the remote lying on the coffee table and threw it at Raphael. She missed him by a few inches.

We both looked at her with surprise.

“Just like I didn’t have a choice? What kind of fucked-up world do you both live in when you think you can just do shit like this?”

“Bianca,” I said, my tone firm.

She didn’t say anything. Her chest pushed in and out in harsh pants.

“Kaia doesn’t have a choice,” Raphael said slowly. “But I would never hurt her. I don’t want to hurt her. I want her. Only her.”

“What about love?” Bianca asked, her lips trembling and her eyes moving to mine briefly.

Was that what this was about?

Did she want me to love her?

DidIlove her?

Fuck, but I didn’t know.

And it didn’t look like Raphael had the answer to that either.

He ignored her question and turned to me. “I know we have a lot of shit going on, but I would like to request a week off.”

I nodded. “Go. I have everything handled here.”

“What?” Bianca asked. “You’re just going to get her, and then what? Just leave her alone. Please.”

Raphael shook his head. “I can’t. I won’t.”

He walked out the door, leaving Bianca and me in the room.

There was so much fucking heartbreak in her eyes, I didn’t know what to do about it.

She shook her head and took a step back. I matched her pace.

“No, leave me alone. You just let him go after her, and I—”

I cupped her cheek. “He won’t hurt her. You have my word.”

“Yeah? Just like the way you didn’t hurt me?”

I stilled. “When have I hurt you,mi corazón?”

I let my lips skim down the side of her face, and she pushed against my chest. I crowded her.

“N-not physically.”

“Did I hurt your feelings? Break your heart?”

She shook her head, her eyes fluttering closed.
