My tears were coming harder now.

“Hush now, love,” he said, skimming his lips over mine. “I won’t die. Who would protect you and our child if I died?”

A possessive glint overtook his eyes.

He pressed another, harder kiss against my lips.

“No. I will live. In spite of all the fuckers out there, I will live to keep you safe. It has become my sole objective in life.”

“P-promise?” I asked.

He smiled. “I vow it.”

He rested his head back on my chest.

It took a while for the shakes to return. Then the tears. And more tears.

I couldn’t seem to stop myself from crying.

He held me tighter. “I got you.”

I nodded. “You got me.”

“I got you, and I am never letting you go.”

I closed my eyes and took comfort in his words.
