She had always been hung up on the stepbrother who’d left her behind to fend for herself. She’d barely looked at another man.
I wasn’t, by far, the most sexually experienced person out there. Far from it. But Kaia was a different story altogether.
And now she was looking at Raphael with something in her eyes…
I didn’t understand it.
I patted her hand gently, and she flinched, turning to me.
I waited.
Letting out a small sigh, she said, “Raphael kissed me.”
“Oh.”
She laughed. “Is that all you can say?”
I paused. Then, “Was it good?”
She laughed harder. “So good.”
I smiled. “So, what’s the problem?”
“Well, in case you haven’t noticed, Raphael’s not like Miles. I couldn’t just ignore him.”
I frowned. “Because he can’t take no for an answer and is scaring you, or… because you don’t know how to ignore him?”
If it was the former, we would quit right away.
She shook her head. “The second one.”
“Really?”
She nodded.
“Do you want to ignore him?”
She shrugged, not saying anything.
I fanned my hand over my face as sweat gathered around my forehead. Now that the windows were rolled up and the car was off, I was feeling the effect of being in this enclosed space.
Kaia eyed me. “Are you sure you’re up to working tonight?”
No. “Yes. Why?”
“You just look a little flush.”
“I’m hot,” I said.
“All right, let’s go inside. I’m sure there is plenty of stuff for us to do before our shifts start.”
We both climbed out of the car, and I might have stood up too fast, because I suddenly felt light-headed. I grabbed the roof of the car before I could stumble.
“Bianca?” Kaia asked, her voice sounding distant.
I looked at her and smiled reassuringly. “You go in first. I’m just going to get some air.”
She didn’t move. “Are you sure?”
