My eyes moved to the engagement ring on my finger.

“Don’t I get a choice?” I asked quietly.

His face was expressionless when he said, “Only if you choose right.”

I blinked, unsure if I had heard him right. He couldn’t have actually just said that to me, could he have?

I took a deep breath and when I let it out, it was a broken gasp.

“You can’t keep me.”

“Why not,mi cariño?”

I pushed on his chest. He barely moved. “Stop calling me that! I’m not your anything!”

He covered one of my hands with his large one, his palm dry and warm, so fucking contradictory to the man so close by. “Oh, that’s where you’re wrong. You will be mine in every sense of the word, starting with being my wife.”

I shook my head.

“Yes,” he said, sounding so calm, it was fucking me up a little. How could he sound so calm when he was talking about a crime?

His other hand moved around me and settled on the small of my back. I shivered from the feeling of it, both from disgust and…

I shook my head slightly.

My feelings toward the man were not something I wanted to delve into right now.

“I can’t marry you.”

A slight panic made my heart jump wildly in my chest. He held me tighter, and the panic increased.

“Yes, you can, and you will, even if I have to tie you up and carry you to the fucking altar myself.”

“No!”

I reared back and slammed my forehead against him. I clipped his lip, and his hold on me loosened enough that I could scramble off his lap.

I didn’t think.

I ran toward the open door as he let out a string of words in Spanish that I was sure were curse words.

I had only been in this house once, but it was enough for me to remember where the front door was.

I needed to get out of this room.

Get away from Gabriel Cadorna, and I would be—

Arms snaked around my middle from behind, and I was pulled back against his large, muscular chest.

“No!”

I kicked out my legs, trying to get him to drop me. He gripped me tighter, his lips brushing the side of my face before they skimmed over the tip of my ear.

“That was really stupid,mi cariño.”

“God, please, no. Please don’t hurt me,” I begged as he walked us back to the bed.

He stilled from my words for one long second before he set me down on the bed and crawled on top of me.
