“Fuck, Bianca. Don’t ever do that to me. I don’t ever want to receive news that you were taken to the hospital. I’ve been so caught up with…” She shook her head, pulled back, and squinted at me. “I should have noticed you weren’t feeling well.”
I tugged her hair playfully before standing. “Come on. I’ll show you to my room.”
I waved at Elena and tried to tug Kaia along, but she stood there, frowning at me.
I turned and shot her a questioning look.
“Yourroom?”
Right.
“Come on.”
I led her through the big house, walking up the stairs and trying to think about ways I could tell her what was happening.
I didn’t know how I could convince her I was doing this by my own choice, or hell, how to convince Gabriel to leave her alone.
Something told me Gabriel did whatever the hell he wanted.
I led her into the master bedroom. The huge king-size bed seemed to steal all the attention in the room.
I had gone to bed by myself last night, but I didn’t know if that had been the case for the rest of the night.
He’d had to sleep somewhere.
I didn’t know what it said about me that I found the thought of him sleeping in the same bed as me as equally repulsive as him sleeping in bed with someone else.
I should have been relieved for him to go out and find some other woman, but I wasn’t.
I didn’t like the thought. And I knew for a fucking fact that he would be just as repulsed by the idea of me going out and finding another man to sleep with.
It wasn’t like I really wanted to, anyway.
I sat on the bed. Kaia remained standing by the open door.
She didn’t look angry.
She looked worried, and somehow, that felt so much worse.
“Bianca—”
“I’m pregnant,” I blurted out, cutting her off.
She stilled. Then, “What?”
“Surprise,” I muttered weakly.
“How—are you sure?”
“The doctor at the hospital took a blood test, so I’m pretty sure, but I have a doctor’s appointment coming up soon.”
She let out a small sigh and came over to sit next to me. “Fuck, Bee. This is huge.”
I nodded. “You’ll be my kid’s godmother, won’t you?”
“Like you even have to ask,” she answered without hesitation, wrapping her arms around me.
Tears pricked my eyes, and I turned away from her so she wouldn’t see.
