“Wish I could.”

She sighed. “I mean, unwrap your arms so I can get dressed.”

I chuckled, but didn’t fight her when she made a move to get off me.

Both her palms lay flat on my chest as she tried to push herself up, and for a brief second, our eyes met, and it seemed the world was holding its breath.

There was that dream in her sea-colored eyes.

Today, they were more green than blue, and I was wholly fascinated with the change.

I sat up and stilled her with one hand on her shoulder. She watched me as I got up and went to the dresser.

I didn’t bother covering myself up.

I wasn’t fucking shy, and I loved the way her eyes ate me up whenever she thought I wasn’t looking.

As much as Mila wanted to deny it, she felt it, too.

Whatever this connection was that was holding her to me was also holding me to her.

And I could work with that.

I opened the drawers and looked through the shirts we had left for her.

Might have to take her shopping soon for more girl clothes and other girly shit, but for now, I loved the sight of her in either my or my brothers’ shirts.

Maverick had taken her out shopping, but he only bought her day clothes. Expensive day clothes, sure, but she probably wanted something of her own to sleep in. And the small bag she’d packed when she ran from the club was shit. If I had it my way, I would have thrown everything that was a reminder of that club, of Daniel Hayes, out.

I found a black one that would look good with her skin tone.

She didn’t say anything as I walked back to her and put the shirt over her head.

It engulfed her, and I would have regretted it if I didn’t have the sight of her in a shirt three sizes too big, with messy, wet blond hair, flushed cheeks, and big eyes enticing me.

She looked fuckable.

She looked like mine.

Her eyes glinted the longer she stared up at me, and I could feel a smile stretching the corners of my lips.

I cupped her cheek.

“I can see you scheming from behind those eyes of yours, angel. What are you up to?”

She narrowed her eyes at me but didn’t answer.

I smiled. “It’s okay. I look forward to whatever plan you have for us. Just remember this: I will be ready for it.”

She scoffed. “You think too highly of yourself.”

I laughed. “Why wouldn’t I?”

“The higher you are, the harder you fall.”

I shrugged. “Hasn’t happened yet.”

She shook her head but didn’t say anything. Wordlessly, I bent down and took her into my arms.
