“So, what are we doing for the rest of the day?” he asked, falling into step beside me easily.

“We’renot doing anything. I am going home.”

“Great! I’ll take you.”

I stopped when we got in front of my car. Unlocking it, I looked at him, then at the car, before shaking my head and moving to the driver’s side.

“Goodbye, Silas.”

He didn’t stop me when I got in my car and turned it on. He stayed where he was, watching me with an expression on his face that I didn’t like very much.

Hopefully, he and his brothers were just passing through New Orleans, and I wouldn’t ever run into any of them ever again.

Somehow, I didn’t think that would be the case.

SILAS

Fuck, but she was an amusing little thing.

I couldn’t help but let out a small chuckle as I watched her drive off. My amusement quickly died, however, when my phone vibrated with a text from Killian, asking where I was. I didn’t reply. Instead, I climbed into my car and followed Mila back to her motel.

I parked my car a small distance away from her door as she walked up to it and paused. Before she opened the door, Mila glanced back out into the parking lot, as though she could feel my eyes on her.

She couldn’t see me in the car because the windows were tinted. It gave me a chance to fully take her in. Mila was interesting to look at.

The more time I spent studying her face, watching her, the more I didn’t want to look away.

She was beautiful, sure, but I had seen a lot of beautiful women before—had been with a lot of beautiful women before.

What was it about this girl that got me all tied up in knots?

I didn’t fucking know. I stayed where I was long after she disappeared inside the motel room. I didn’t know what I was doing here, watching her like this.

I needed to act quickly. Maverick probably wanted to go back home to Chicago and deal with the chaos we’d left behind now that we had annihilated the entire MC chapter, and Killian probably didn’t want to waste any more time on Hayes’ spawn.

My phone vibrated again. Annoyed, I silenced it and chucked it into the glove compartment, my eyes returning to Mila’s motel room. I wondered what she was doing in there.

She probably didn’t know what to do, now that she was in a strange city without anyone she knew nearby, but that was okay. She wasn’t going to be here for long.

I narrowed my eyes when I noticed movement on the side of the motel building.

A group of three men loitered.

This wasn’t exactly the nicest place in the city, so there shouldn’t be anything that seemed unusual about three men who looked like they had just crawled out of the underbelly of the city, save for the fact that they were looking a little too closely at my girl’s door.

I watched as one of the fuckers, the scrawniest of the bunch, broke off from the group and started walking down the pathway that passed her door.

Fucker was trying not to make it obvious when he paused slightly in front of her motel window and peered inside.

My fists clenched, imagining all the ways I would fucking kill him with my bare hands.

He walked back to his group and said something to the other two that had them nodding before the three of them walked away.

I stayed where I was.

I had no doubt they would be back before nightfall, so all that was left was to fucking wait.
