My eyebrows jumped in surprise. I hadn’t realized Killian had already told her. He worked fast. And I realized my mistake for not telling her sooner.
She shook her head.
Killian took a step forward. “I think you did, otherwise, you wouldn’t have tried to run and hide just now. Or doubt us for being with you, with or without the fucking inheritance.”
She looked down at the floor. “You’re right. I’m sorry.”
He closed the gap between them, only stopping when he stood no more than a foot away. “I know you are. And I can forgive that. Right after.”
Her eyes sprang up to look at him. “Right after?”
Killian smiled darkly, and I felt my lips twitch. Fuck, but I knew what that look in his eyes meant. “Right after I punish you. Then all will be right again, and you’ll think twice before ever doubting our love for you again.”

I blinked slowly, unsure if I had heard him right.
Did he just say…?
“What?” I asked.
Killian’s smile widened. A hint of wariness entered me. There was a reason why I always felt so uneasy when Killian smiled like this. Nothing good ever came of it.
“Punish me?”
Behind me, Silas let out a chuckle. I turned back and glared at him before looking at Maverick for help. He was obviously the more levelheaded brother, but he was smiling at me the same way Killian was smiling at me, and I realized I was wrong.
Maverick wasn’t levelheaded at all.
“You—You can’t punish me!” I said, backing away. Killian followed. Fucking hell. How did it come to this? I had been completely heartbroken over the stupid inheritance. It was no wonder Dad had kept me close, and a small part of me had doubted the brothers’ feelings for me. I was no longer doubting that, and whatever feelings I might have over my dad were already pushed deep down in the darkest parts of me to be examined at a later date.
And now?
I wasn’t feeling heartbroken.
I was feeling apprehensive, intrigued, and fuck me, a little turned-on.
I shook my head.
“And why can’t I?” Killian asked, quickly closing the gap between us.
My mouth opened, but nothing came out. I took another step, only to stop when I ran into something hard and warm. I looked around to see Silas’ honey-brown eyes. I swallowed. He was enjoying this way more than he should be. And I was now trapped between two men who both tower over me. I should be scared, considering what my childhood had been like. I wasn’t.
I was nervous but…excited.
I turned back to Killian. “We should talk about this.”
He shook his head, his heated eyes raking up and down my body and leaving a blazing trail of fire over my skin.
“No?” I asked.
Killian bit his bottom lip, drawing my eyes to it. My breath caught, and he let go of the bite, his lips forming a wicked smirk that had my heart racing.
I looked off to the side to find Maverick watching us.
“No, don’t look at him, angel. Maverick can’t save you now.”
