“Do you have a blanket you could wrap around yourself?”

“Mmm.”

“Shit. Are you sliding into subspace? Fucking hell, I shouldn’t have done that.”

“Max.” I breathe in and out, the fog clearing. I smile, but he can’t see that. “Max. I’m fine. I’m good. That was super intense. Thank you.”

“You should get something to eat.”

“Really. You’re confusing post-orgasm bliss with subspace because of the phone.”

“I’ve never done that before.”

“Phone sex?”

“Well, phone Dom, anyway.”

“It was good. Great. And I’m getting up now to go have a glass of water and granola bar.”

“Thank you for that.” He sighs. “Only Monday, eh?”

“I’ve got a long work week ahead, it should fly by. How about you?”

“Yeah. Department meeting tomorrow night, won’t be home until late.”

“Hard worker.”

“I could say the same thing to you. You’re a total keener.”

I blush. I am. “Okay, so we’re not exactly the same. You’resonot a keener.” There’s no way Max would ever be that desperate for anyone to know he’s got the right answer. He’s a know-it-all, in a way, maybe, but he doesn’t give a fuck if anyone notices. He just likes to be right. I don’t think we have slang for that.

He chuckles. “Nope.”

“You’re the anti-keener.” There. That’s now a thing. At least for us.

“Pretty much.”

“What were you in high school, a rebel?”

He doesn’t answer right away, then he clears his throat. “I didn’t go to high school, actually. But I guess I was a rebel in university. Definitely the dark horse in medical school.”

“Dr. Bad Boy.” I laugh. I like that. I’m going to use that again. But he’s a good doctor, too, and I tell him as much.

“I try. It’s…I like helping people.”

“Oooh, a secret keener.”

“Don’t tell anyone.”

“Your secret is safe with me.” I know there’s more to it than that, but I’ll leave those questions for another time.

“And you were the keener girl, in high school and beyond, weren’t you?”

“Front of the classroom, hand waving in the air.” I sigh. “It’s true.”

“Sitting straight up, I bet. I do like your posture.”
