"No problem, buddy. Get some sleep."

As Chip turned back around he had one more thing to say. "Luv you, Brody."

Ah, hell.

"Love you, too."

Then Chip was asleep.

And Brody's heart was about to burst out of his chest.

Brody knockedon Rhea's door and he only heard a muffled response.

Worried that she might be too sick to call out, Brody opened the door and Rhea turned on her side so her back was to the door.

"Rhea, honey?"

"Go away, Brody."

He frowned and took another step forward.

"Please, Brody. I'm... I'm not feeling good."

He believed her. He could hear the pain in her voice.

And he hated it.

But he also knew what it was like to be sick and to have people bother him. Even if they meant well, it was easier to suffer by yourself than deal with others.

"Okay." He spoke softly as he took a step back. "I'm going to go. But anything you need, honey... ANYTHING. Just let me know and I'll be there."

"'kay."

He hated to leave, but he knew he had to.

Just as he was about to shut the door, he had to remind her. "I love you, Rhea."

Once the door was closed and he was headed out through the house, he thought he heard someone crying.

As soon as he heard it, it was gone.

He shook his head and left the house.

CHAPTER19

When it rained,it poured.

That's the thought that was in Rhea's head as she drove into Richmond the next day.

She felt horrible about calling Joshua to see if he could find someone on short notice to take her place on shift.

When Keely had called her just before lunch, it had been a welcome distraction. Which made her feel horrible. The custody fight wasn't something she was happy about, but she didn't know how she was going to get through a day-long shift with Brody while her heart was breaking.

Now, she could head to Richmond and attend court with Keely and find out what was really going on with Charles' family.

Joshua had assured her that it wasn't a problem to cover her shift.

He knew that this was for her court case, and he was very kind to help her.
