“This was a mission,” I conclude.

He nods while using his flashlight to look at them.

“Whoever did this had something in mind. Killing my men is a stretch.”

“I think they planned to get to you.”

“Ivan, whoever is behind this knows where to find me. It’s not a stranger or a random raid. Someone sent people here.”

“We need to formulate a plan then,” Ivan says.

We take the stairs and return to the warehouse before heading to the second floor. A few of my men are there talking, but the conversation stops when they see me.

I look at them angrily before I speak.

“Does anyone have any idea how this happened?” I ask and get silence as an answer.

I smirk and deftly take out my gun and shoot a spot on the wall above their heads. The shot rings out, and they cower before looking back at me.

“Answer me!” I yell.

“We don’t know how it happened, Boss. We just came and found the place like this.”

“Wrong answer,” I smirk and fire another shot into the air.

“Any other answer?” I ask, staring at them expectantly.

It’s funny to see trained killers cower in my presence, but that’s what they get since they all claim to have no clue about this.

“I’ve walked around the warehouse,” I start. “What I’ve noticed is that whoever did this was very specific.”

I look at them for a reaction, but they all stare blankly at me.

“Whoever did this was led here. There was no mistake. They knew the way to the basement, the code, and where to hide the bodies. The person didn’t come here for the first time.”

I pin all of them with an accusatory stare.

“It has made me believe this is an inside job. Only a few people present here are aware of that basement. Is there anything I need to know?”

“Boss, we are all sworn to Omerta. I don’t think anyone would disclose this location.”

“So, I’m tripping?” I smirk.

He immediately backtracks. “No, Boss, I’m just saying …”

“You have two days. Two days to come up with answers,” I command. “Or someone is going down for it.”

I tuck the gun into my pocket and walk out angrily. They can pretend for all I care, but it doesn’t shake my feeling that this was an inside job.

CHAPTER FOURTEEN - Luna

I stand in front of the big steel gates and contemplate turning around. I can’t just go back because I’m already here and can’t pay the bus fare back. But also, my body isn’t ready to face him yet after our near kiss yesterday.

I’ve been thinking about his touch since he abruptly left the office yesterday, I haven’t gotten his voice out of my head. I was excited to go to the office today, only to be disappointed that he wasn’t there. I convinced myself I was only here to give him the meeting minutes, but the flutters in my belly said otherwise.

I want to see him because I miss him. An emotion I feel guilty for after putting him under fire by sending that information to Victor. Victor hasn’t messaged me since then, so I assume that he’s gotten what he wanted.

I hoist my bag over my shoulder as I prepare to ring the bell of Giovanni’s extravagant mansion.
