“SO? WHAT DID HE SAY? Lola asked.

“He agreed.”

“Girl, you going to do this?”

MiaBella shrugged. “I really don’t have a choice. It’s a good plan.”

“You’re obsessed.” Lola chuckled.

MiaBella ignored her. She had worked too hard to find him and finally she had an opportunity to help him and free herself from guilt. She intended to take it.

“Are you coming to Sicily?” MiaBella asked. Lola rode next to her thumbing through the Instagram photos on her phone.

“Lola? Are you coming.”

“Not right away. I have to find a way to convince Jewel and Carmine to come. Uncle Lucio is saying no. Auntie Shae is going to work on him. Ma said that they all got an invite to Cuba. I think we might have to go there instead. So maybe we will visit Sicily afterward.”

“Try to come. You’ve never been, and my mum wants to meet you.”

“Well, my mama hates her,” Lola tossed back. MiaBella flinched. She hated how Lola spoke of the family so callously. And she was very protective of her mother.

“Trust me, your mama isn’t a favorite person of mum’s either,” MiaBella said.

Lola laughed. “Lord, don’t I know it. Funny thing is, she and daddy are fine with me being with you. She won’t let Rocco come with us though.”

MiaBella nodded. Rocco was Lola’s youngest brother. He was six years younger than her and would be going to college in the fall. “Did he decide on a major?”

“He wants to be a lawyer. Mama is so proud,” Lola rolled her eyes.

MiaBella understood. No matter what happened or how much older they became none of them could escape their family dreams.

“What is Sicily like? I’ve always wanted to go, and to see Italy too.”

“It’s nothing special,” MiaBella mumbled. “I told you. If you want to go just google it.”

“Then why do you keep begging me and Jewel to come,” Lola asked.

“I dunno. I guess misery loves company.”

Lola laughed. MiaBella smiled. She relaxed and thought of the trip with Ryder. She hadn’t had a boyfriend or even a kiss from a stranger since the night she lost her virginity. She was locked away and only allowed to travel with Eve, and now things were changing. She couldn’t wait to see what the future brings.
