“I did,” he confessed.

“And?” she asked.

He stole another kiss. “Stay here with me. Please.”

She sighed.

He kissed her yet again and then took a second to think about everything that had happened since he’d walked in the door from work. A smile slid over his lips. “I’m going to be a father.”

She inclined her head a little. “Yes. You are.”

He took her hands in his and held them near his chest as they stayed on their knees before one another. “We’regoing to be parents.”

Rachael laughed. “I feel like you’re nearly there fully on wrapping your head around this.”

Drest nodded. “I’m going to be someone’s daddy.”

“Are you going to do this all night?” she asked, appearing amused.

“Maybe,” he admitted. “I never thought I’d have children.”

She stiffened.

“No, hon. I don’t mean it the way you’re taking it,” he said. “I gave up hope over a hundred years ago. Does that make sense?”

Compassion filled her face. “It does.”

“I love you so much,” he said.

“I love you too,” she responded, sliding her hand down the front of his slacks.

“Rachael?”

She smiled against his mouth. “First, let’s do something else and then we can eat. I’m starving and super hungry for Chinese food. I’ve been craving it all day. And how about some bananas? Those sound good too.”

“Whatever you want, hon.” Drest chuckled and returned to kissing her.

She wrapped her hand around his erection and bit his lower lip lightly.

Drest growled and fell backward onto the floor, dragging her onto him.

“Drest!”

He laughed and then kissed her thoroughly, pulling at her clothing, wanting to feel her naked and against him.

She melted in his arms and returned his kiss, helping him to get her naked faster. She then slipped her hand down his slacks again before freeing him from them.

He couldn’t look away from her as she straddled his waist and sank down on him. She was a goddess. There was no other explanation for the power she held over him—over his heart.

As she began moving on him, he reached up and brushed his fingers over her lush lips. When he spoke, it was in his native tongue—Fae. He whispered words of love that had no English equivalent. Everything that was close paled in comparison to what he felt for her.

ChapterTwenty-Three

Rachael

Five months later…

My nerves were shot as I began arranging tea on a serving tray. I’d gone back and forth on calling Drest, knowing that if I brought him into this and told him the truth—that I was pretty sure my brother was headed down the same dark path our uncle had—he’d have no choice but to bring other Nightshade members in on it. But it couldn’t wait. I needed help with Henry.
