"I'm okay, but Emmy seems like she's still a day or two behind me. But I thought with blood sickness, it strikes men harder than the women."

"Emmy's still human, right?"

I nodded my head before I remembered to speak aloud, since Kirby couldn't see me across a phone line. "Yes, she's human."

"So that's not unexpected. It took me about four days to be up and running again with blood sickness. With a human's weaker immune system, she's going to be about the same amount of time if not more."

I didn't even think about her being human as a factor. But he was right. She was at a disadvantage for quick recovery.

The other thing was the idea that it might be after the full moon before she was truly healthy.

"Shit, I'm supposed to go back to Munich and if she's not healthy..."

"You need to bring her along with you for this trip. With the full moon, you guys should be out of the extreme danger of blood sickness. How are you doing with the restorative supply? Do you need me to bring more of that over when I arrive in Vancouver tomorrow?"

"I need more, but we hoped that Lottie or Dino could make a sweeter blend. Maybe by adding a dash of grenadine to it."

That got a chuckle from Kirby. "No way in hell Lottie's going to mess with her mum's and granny's recipe. Talk with Dino and see what he thinks. He might know a work around, but I wouldn't mess with the formula at all. It worked for me, and you know just how difficult treating blood sickness can be."

He was right. What I didn't show Emmy when we were at the library was just how few people my great granddad could heal. He made the connection that mates had to be close to each other during their first month, but not how to treat them. Granted, great granddad refused to do any of the old ways or more magical healings. He only wanted to do things that could be proven with science and easily repeated.

"Yeah."

Kirby said, "It'd be easier if Lottie makes the new supply."

"That's fine. I'll take anything. I just want my girl better. I hate how much she's still sleeping when I'm feeling much better."

Kirby said, "You'll both be up and about in no time. Just dote on her until then."

Deep down, I knew Kirby was right. I just needed to show her how much I loved her until then.

Besides, if I didn't keep showing her my love, I would likely do something really stupid. I didn't need to do anything like that.

"Will do. I'll see you in the morning."

Chapter 45

Emmy

Eoghannudgedmeupto the sitting position and propped a few pillows behind me, which meant it was time for a meal. Looking at the windows, it was still light out, so it was either lunch or dinner.

My days had blended so much, but I knew that Eoghan had been home for two days. He was missing so much time from his team and I felt so guilty.

"Bad news about the medicine, no dice on changing the recipe to make it sweeter. However, I did bring you a Shirley Temple as a chaser." He set a tray filled with a hearty chicken noodle soup, a red drink with a straw and a cheery umbrella that held a cherry and a teacup with the bitter medicine.

I picked up the teacup and flung it back. It tasted awful. I swallowed it, feeling like I was going through my own bushtucker trial. Then I took a few sips of the Shirley Temple that were too sweet after something so bitter.

Eoghan's fingers brushed back some of my hair. God, I had to be disgusting since I hadn't left my bed in days. I needed to get a shower, but I wasn't sure if Eoghan wanted me to try that.

"Up for helping me to get a shower or a bath?" I asked as I put my spoon into the chicken noodle soup.

His eyes instantly hooded over, and it seemed like he adored the idea of helping me bathe. Sadly, I didn't think I had enough energy to make it really fun for him. Nor did I want to disgust him with my current state.

"Of course. What do you prefer?"

His soup was amazing. That was when I realized that I took a real turn for the better. Not only was I wanting a shower, my appetite was back.

"A shower sounds better, but the idea of standing for even five minutes seems like too much work."
