“Wow, you really are a hoe like I always knew you were.” Freedom chuckled angrily. His jab hurt my feelings for a second until I remembered all of the bullshit, he’d put me through.

“Look, there’s no reason for you to be contacting me unless there’s something wrong with Sincere. I’m not sure what’s going on with you, but I’m not about to allow you to disrespect me. I’ll see you on Monday for us to make the exchange. Have a blessed night.” I hung up the phone, making sure to power it off. Knowing Freedom, he wouldn’t stop calling until I picked up so I nipped that shit in the bud.

“Are you straight?” Turning to face Onyx, a wave of shame hit me. I would hate for him to think less of me because of the situation with my ex. Even if this ended up being nothing more than a hookup.

“I’m alright. My son is with his father for the week, and he was upset because he wasn’t able to reach me. He’ll be alright.” I tried to keep the explanation as simple as possible.

“What’s the deal between the two of you? I know that kind of dynamic can come with a lot of complications.” I winced at his word choice. Even though he was well in his rights to inquire about it.

“We are working through the kinks of co-parenting. My goal is to make things healthy and cohesive for my son. He’s the most important person in all of this,” He nodded.

“So are y’all still fucking around?” He wasted no time getting to the meat of it all.

“No. We tried the relationship thing, and it wasn’t for us. We’re both single.” He chuckled, turning to his vape from the nightstand.

“From the sounds of ol’ boy on the phone, he wouldn’t agree with your assessment.” My hands were sweating as I reached to pull the covers over my naked body.” Onyx snatched the blanket from my hands. My head whipped in his direction to see this sexy smirk on his face.

“Naw, I’m not done with you just yet. Besides, I meant what I said earlier. I’m really feeling you, so I’m gonna give you time to tie up your loose ends. When I come for your heart, I want to be the only man with access to it.” I gulped, feeling an overwhelming sense of fear. Oddly enough, I believed every word he spoke. There was this magnetic pull between us, and I wanted to see where it would lead. My only reservation lay in current relationship status with my child’s father. As much as he claimed he couldn’t be what I needed, I knew he wouldn’t let go so easily. Onyx seemed to be a genuine soul and I needed that in my life. I prayed I would be able to give him back all that he wanted to give to me.

“Umm, that was so good, baby,” Markeisha moaned. I reached for my phone on the nightstand to see what time it was. Originally, I only came here to blow off some steam. It might not have been right, but it felt good to me.

“I appreciate it, shorty.” I sat up then scooped my pants from the floor. My intentions were to come through, fuck her senseless then leave. Somewhere in between I messed around and fell asleep. When I woke up, I decided to go I might as well fuck her again.

“Why are you getting dressed, you might as well spend the night.” She pleaded. This was one of the reasons I kept my visits to a minimum. Markeisha clung to me like Velcro whenever I blessed her with this. It annoyed me to no end, but like I said this was about nothing more than a release.

“Naw, I need to get home so I can go pick up my son this afternoon.” I lied, but she didn’t need to know it.

“Hmmph, I see my hoe ass cousin has her claws in another nigga. She’s always posting on social media at the clubs and shit. She hardly ever has y’all son since she’s running the streets. Any time I see her posting a picture, her son is nowhere around. She won’t pay our family to keep Sincere, but she’ll send them over there for those bougie bitches to watch. My auntie said she was supposed to pay her for watching him, and now she’s not picking up the phone. These hoes will do anything for a few dollars and some dick.” She huffed. Although I might be upset about Breyoun moving on, I couldn’t negate the fact that she was a good mother.

I couldn’t stand a jealous bitch, and for some reason, Markeisha hated the ground her cousin walked on. It’s been this way for years and I won’t lie and say I haven’t used it to my advantage at times. Bree rarely posted our son on social media, but she took pictures of him daily. When we were on good terms, she used to send me a picture of him every day. Bree made sure my little man was put together at all times. Even when she wasn’t taking care of herself, she kept our son looking fresh. Still, I entertained her cousin in order to stroke my ego.

“Oh, yeah? When did her momma start watching Sincere?” Breyoun’s mother constantly talked shit about her daughter, however, whenever she needed help her mother never showed up for her. Breyoun kept a job since she turned fifteen in order to provide for herself since her mother spent most of her money on men and liquor. Even when Bree tried to get help from her, she had her hand out. Her family dynamic resembled one of those stories you see in urban fiction. They were dysfunctional and disloyal. I mean look at Markeisha. She and Breyoun were first cousins, but we’d been fucking around for years.

I used to warn Breyoun her family wasn’t shit, but she called me a hater. Markeisha and I used to mess around before I met Bree, but I got bored with her and moved on. Once Bree introduced me to her family, I realized the two of them were related. I thought about telling her, but when Markeisha never brought it up, I figured it could stay between us. A month after I started talking to Breyoun, Markeisha hit me up begging to suck my dick. Of course, I took her up on the offer.

Whenever I needed to drain my balls without any extra effort, I hit her line. Markeisha has four kids, so she lived in a decent little house in the hood. I’d been over multiple times once her kids went to sleep. Two of her baby fathers hated my family, so I made sure to put some extra power behind my strokes when I fucked her. There were three fathers in total, but the oldest one was the only one who was active.

“Oh, umm, she’s watched him a bunch of times. Breyoun just lies about it.” Somebody was lying alright, but it wasn’t my baby momma.

“Oh, yeah? I didn’t know she was keeping him.” I replied, Yanking my t-shirt over my head.

“Yeah. If I were you, I’d be pissed. Auntie says Sincere is always dirty with a saggy ass pamper on. Bree doesn’t even make sure there’s food in his bag or anything. I’ve even brought food over there to help her out since Bree won’t help her.” I shook my head, but not for the reasons she thought. For some reason, Bree’s mother went out of her way to bash her even though she depended on her for money.

I found it funny that Keish tried to throw shade at Bree, when everyone knew her mother kept her children more than she did. Markeisha hadn’t worked a job in years, yet her kids were rarely ever home. She lived on Section 8 housing while receiving two thousand dollars’ worth of food stamps. I’d bought a few from her myself because the prices were high as hell. Bree constantly broke her neck to help them, but none of them ever extended the same courtesy.

“Yean, I’m about ready to take her ass to court for full custody. I don’t feel comfortable with another man being around my child and I know nothing about him.” I knew damn well it was a lie; however, I also knew Markeisha was like a news reporter. She’d make sure to relay the message to the right people in order for it to get back to Bree. It may have been childish, but I wanted her attention more than anything. Negative or not.

“I think it’s a great idea; she doesn’t deserve him anyway. All she’s trying to do is get money from you and your family anyway. I’m shocked the DNA test came out the way it did, considering her track record.” She snarled. It’s sad to know how low family members will stoop in order to try and discredit you. As much as my baby mama and I argued, I still felt bad for the family she’d been stuck with. I understood why she clung to mine so tough.

“Alright, I’m about to head out, I’ll catch up with you later.”

“Wait, can I get a few dollars before you go? My lights are about to get cut off in a couple of days?” She yanked the neck of her oversized t-shirt. My face twisted in disbelief. I couldn’t believe she’d mustered up enough nerve to ask me for a dime when she was unemployed by choice.

“You don’t get child support or something?” I blurted out. My keys were on the floor, so I bent down to pick them up. She’d completely thrown me off with her request. I rarely gave money to women unless we were in a relationship. Even then it depended on what they’d done for me. Call me selfish, but I’m not breaking bread with any bitch who’s capable of getting to the bag on their own.
