"I can try," Sariah said. "But if Jas says something about my hair again, all bets are off."

The other two bridesmaids came to join us then. Twins,Veronicaand Vivian, were my sister's sisters. Literally. They'd been in the same sorority for all four years of college.

Veronica smiled and said, "I'm excited."

"Awesome," I said. "Me, too."

"Once this wedding is over, I'll finally get my Porsche. Daddy promised me a new car for our birthday next month."

Ugh.

Vivian, her sister, raised a hand. "He's getting me a Benz. I'll be more than happy to ride off into the sunset. But I'm excited about Jas's wedding as well. Can't wait to see all the different hairstyles and fashion."

"Good for you." Izzy sighed. "I miss my combat boots."

Tilting my head, I said, "Well, why don't you paint them silver and wear them under your dress? It's not like you'll be able to see them anyway."

Izzy's mouth was gaping, and the other three girls were studying her feet. They did look pained in those silver high heels.

"You could even add rhinestones for some bling," I said.

Izzy threw her arms around me in a tight hug, and I gasped.

"Bless you, Magnolia," she said. "You're a freaking genius."

"No problem. If you get in trouble, though, I had nothing to do with it," I called as she and Sariah left to go deal with the shoe situation.

"That was nice of you," Veronica said.

"Very nice," Vivian agreed as she stopped at my side.

I gave a shrug. "We bridesmaids have to look out for each other."

"We do," Veronica said. She and her sister exchanged a look. "Um, Magnolia?"

"Yeah?"

"If I say something, will you promise not to get mad?"

Well, this didn't sound good.

I nodded anyway.

"It's just…would you mind if…can I do your makeup?" Veronica said in a rush.

"And can I do your hair?" Vivian added. "I'd love to get my hands on it."

A burst of laughter left my lips. "Of course!" Isaid. "Why did you think I'd be upset about that?"

They seemed to sigh in unison.

"I didn't want you to think I was saying you look bad or anything," Veronica said. "Because you don't! I just love makeup. It can really enhance a person's beauty."

"So can hair," Vivian said.

I smiled at them. "Yes, please! I've tried, but I have no idea about these things."

Veronica had me sit in a chair and started on my face. Vivian got behind me with a hot iron and went to work on my hair. It was like being at a salon. Not thatMomand I had much experience with those. We saved our money for other things like the mortgage, college, and oh yes, this wedding. The price was steep. But at least it all went to a very worthy cause: giving my sister the night of her dreams.
