His chest rumbled again, and he shifted, rolling us so he hovered above me.

“What’s wrong?”

“How will this work?” I searched his face. “Like with the nanny thing.”

“We’ll figure it out.” He leaned down and brushed his lips gently over mine before pulling back to look at me. “I know one thing. I want as much time with you as I can get. I’m a very needy, selfish man.” His lips lifted slightly.

I rolled my eyes. The way he focused on what I needed last night instead of his own needs made that statement ridiculous.

He tilted forward and pressed a quick kiss to my forehead. “Most likely, the solution will be Maggie needing her own nanny. I don’t share well.”

I chuckled. “You didn’t even want me as the nanny.”

“Because I knew it would be harder to ignore the way you made me feel if I was around you all the time.”

“And now?” Jesus. Apparently, I was the needy one—needing to hear him say he didn’t regret this.

A growl tumbled from his lips, and his hand came up to cup my face. “Sweetheart, look at me.”

I met his gaze, and in it swirled no indecision, just unbridled truth.

“I’m so fucking glad you said yes to Maggie. That you called me that night you got the flat. That over the last few weeks you’ve become important to not only the girls but to me too. I don’t regret a single moment. Okay?”

I swallowed and nodded. Every time I thought he couldn’t possibly surprise me, he did.

His lips met mine, and I sagged back into the mattress as his tongue explored my mouth until my alarm went off again.

He groaned. “I guess you can’t ignore that one again.”

I shook my head. “No. I really need to get ready to go.”

“Fine.” He huffed dramatically and rolled off me. “If you must.”

I giggled. He was so playful at times, it was hard to imagine I ever thought he was grumpy. I could feel his eyes on me as I climbed out of the bed and headed toward the attached bathroom. With a quick glance over my shoulder, I paused in the doorway. He leaned up on his elbows, his heated gaze raking over my naked body.

“Come back over after you drop the girls off at school.”

I raised an eyebrow. “And what if I said no?”

His lips twitched. “You won’t.”

“So confident?”

“Yes. Because good girls get rewarded.”

My cheeks heated. “And what is my reward?”

“Making you come on my tongue over and over until you’re begging me to stop.”

I squeezed my legs together to ease the tension his words caused.

The corner of his lips pulled up. “You better hurry.”

Excitement zipped through my body as I turned and disappeared into the bathroom. I’d never felt this way about anyone I’d dated. And although I didn’t know how it was going to work out, I had faith we would figure it out together.
