“Because you’re beautiful and I like watching you cook.”

I stood up and headed to the wine rack that sat on top of my fridge. “White or red?”

“Red…maybe the Pinot Noir?”

I poured us each a glass and helped her carry the plates to the table. As we sat and ate, we talked about the girls' first soccer game coming up on Saturday and how Jesse, Maggie’s boyfriend, planned to be there too. I also thought about the surprise I had for Izzy after the game.

“How was your shift today?”

I blinked, the sudden change of conversation bringing me out of my thoughts. “It was busy. But only a bunch of small crap.” I went on to tell her about some of the calls. Having someone to talk to at the end of the day wasn’t something I thought I was missing, but sitting here with her chatting about my day felt perfect.

“I think Seth is settling in better now.” I smirked. “Although he still doesn’t really smile.”

She chuckled. “I could’ve said the same about you.”

I paused with my fork halfway to my mouth. “I smile.”

“Now you do. But before all you did was glare and growl at me.”

I huffed out a laugh. “Oh. Yeah, well, that was extenuating circumstances.”

She rolled her eyes and I pushed my plate back before asking her about her day. I sat back in my chair and listened to her talk about her day at the hospital and then with the girls.

As she talked, I couldn’t stop staring at her, and the realization that I was falling in love with her hit me square in the chest. I just prayed she felt the same.

Chapter Thirty-Three

IZZY

“Yes.”I clapped as Nikki stole the ball and headed toward the goal. She stopped a few feet away from it and pulled her foot back before giving the ball a hard kick. I jumped and yelled as it bounced off the net, landing inside the goal.

Maggie and Jesse chuckled.

A blush crept up my neck. I’d met Maggie’s boyfriend once or twice over the last few weeks, but it was only in passing when he would show up as I was leaving. “Sorry, I can be a bit competitive.”

“A bit?” Logan asked from the other side of me.

“You shush.” I sent him a playful glare.

He wrapped his arm around my back and pulled me closer with a hand on my hip. It had been almost a week since that first night together, and I still got butterflies in my stomach every time he touched me. Was it silly I hoped those never went away?

“I’m glad the girls have you to cheer them on,” Maggie said with a smile. “They said you two were going on a?—”

Logan cleared his throat loudly, cutting her off and narrowing his eyes slightly. “It’s a surprise.”

I looked up at Logan. He planned on surprising me?

“Oh.” Maggie smirked. “Sorry, girls left that part off.”

Logan met my gaze. “And no, I’m not telling you.”

I stuck out my bottom lip. “No fair.”

He pressed his lips to my temple. “Have I ever told you how cute you are when you pout?”

With a roll of my eyes, I focused back on the game. Although I didn’t miss the smile Maggie gave us as she watched our exchange.

Once the game was over, Maggie and Jesse left with the girls, and we had settled back in Logan’s truck, curiosity got the best of me.
