I lifted both hands out of the water, showing her my palms. “Let’s ignore my lower half right now. It has a mind of its own.”
I’d expected her to scoot away, but she didn’t, just tilting her head back to rest against the snow. “I’mthe one with no self-control lately. Feels like I’m a really shitty phoenix.”
“How so?” I asked with a laugh.
“The incoming heat is burning away old Morgan. I was basically a pile of neuroticisms in a trench coat. I miss the suppressants because they made me more predictable. I never know how I’m going to react to anything anymore.”
“That makes sense. I’ve been on blockers for a long time, and I know that’s not really the same thing, but it does change a bit of how your body responds. I keep hoping my dose will wear off faster than it’s supposed to.”
“So we can see if we’re a match?”
“Iknowwe’re a match. I can still smell you, but it’s not the same if you don’t know it too.”
“Oh.”
“The running theory is that the more time I spend around you, the faster it’ll burn off. I figure it’s kinda like a water filter, where they have an ideal lifespan, but if the water is particularly contaminated it’s not gonna last as long. Not that you’re a contamination or anything,” I quickly amended. “I just figure it can only stop a scent surge so many times.”
“How would I help speed that up?”
“Keep being your beautiful self around me.”
Morgan burst out laughing. “This is probably theleastbeautiful I’ve ever been. I look ridiculous right now.”
I couldn’t deny she looked a bit unique with every bit of hair bundled under a beanie and Bear’s oversized shirt floating around her, but she was still cute as a fucking button. “You lookperfect.Do you think being a little unpolished at the moment makes me want you any less?”
Her cheeks flushed pink. “I don’t know what goes on inside your head. You really think we could burn it off? I want to know what your scent is.”
“I can tell you what it is.”
Morgan shook her head. “I want to know for myself. What should I do?”
“I’m going to have to leave that to your imagination. Zero pressure, remember?”
“But I don’t know what I’m doing.” Morgan pouted, looking every ounce the needy omega she was.
I swallowed hard. “What do youthinkyou should be doing? You don’t need instructions for being around me.”
“How do I trigger a scent surge?”
Gods help me.
“Um, as far as I know, the three most reliable triggers are aggression, possession, and attraction.”
“Well, I don’t really want you to get aggressive with me, and there’s no one else here for you to get possessive, if that’s even something you would feel, and I’m definitely not cute enough right now to provoke attraction. Is it a lost cause?”
“My cock would definitely disagree with you on the not being cute enough to provoke attraction front.”
Her gaze slid back to my lap, the sweetness of maple syrup and black tea blending with the steam off the water.
My whole body tightened as I breathed it in.
“I didn’t evendoanything.”
“You don’t have to do anything to get me to respond to you. You just have to exist.”
She was still and silent for a few moments before moving closer, swinging one leg over my lap and setting her bare ass on my knees. “Is this okay?”
I nodded, gritting my teeth, still holding my hands in the air despite the cold. I almost died on the spot when she wrapped her hands around my wrists, dragging them beneath the water to settle on her waist. Morgan leaned forward, tucking her face against my throat and wrapping her arms around my neck.
