I woke the following morning and sat stark upright in bed. Panicked. Where was David? My father couldn’t find us in bed together. He’d be furious.
A quick glance around my bedroom told me David had already left. How long ago, I had no idea.
My clothes from the night before weren’t by the door, and when I got out of bed, I found them thrown in my laundry hamper.
The only sign David had been in my room at all.
Well, that and the delicious ache between my legs.
If it wasn’t for howamazingmy body still felt, I might have thought I dreamed the whole thing. But as I got into the shower, and let the hot water rain down on me, I knew it was no dream.
No dream could have ever beenthatincredible. Mine and David’s bodies fit together perfectly, and the intensity of the orgasms he’d given me had been likenothingI’d felt before.
My whole body tingled all over just thinking about David and the things we’d done. As I got out of the shower, I instinctively grabbed my phone and was about to call David when I realized one vital thing:
What we’d done last night couldneverhappen again.
For starters, my father would be furious. I didn’t know exactly how old David was, but I knew he wasolderthan me. Plus, Dad would never agree with his ‘little girl’ dating the ‘help’. Sure, it wasn’t like David was a butler or something, but just the fact he’d been hired as my bodyguard made David off limits.
If anyone found out we’d slept with each other, David would likely lose his job, and my father wouldneverlet me out of his sight again.
As amazing as my night with David had been, it could never happen again.
EVER.
I almost jumped out of my skin when my phone beeped with a series of messages — Brittany and Courtney had flooded our group chat, checking in to see if I was okay, and asking if I’d meet them at the mall later — but there was also one from David too.
It simply said: “We need to talk. I’ll be at your place in 15 minutes.”

DAVID
Iwasn’t sure if I was relieved or disappointed by Alyssa’s reaction when I made it clear that what had happened between us the night after she’d been to the club could never happen again.
I’d expected her to be a little upset at least. But her reaction made me feel like the night we’d spent together meantnothingto her.
I shouldn’t have been surprised, really. Alyssa had menfallingat her feet. Still, I hadhopedit had at least meantsomethingto her. Because it had certainly meant something to me.
I was under no disillusions about Alyssa and I getting together and living happily ever after — we were from two different worlds — but I’dfeltsomething that night and hoped she had too. The way our bodies fit together so easily. The things she made me feel. I’d never experienced that with any other woman.
But as Alyssa had glanced at me across the table in the kitchen counter, shrugged so nonchalantly and said, “Sure, no big deal,” it was like everything I’d thought and felt that night had been a lie.
I meantnothingto her.
Which I supposed was a good thing, as it made continuing to be her bodyguard so much easier. But I had to admit, it stung more than a little. I hadn’t hadthateffect from a woman before.
Still, one positive had come of the whole thing. For whatever reason, Alyssa had stopped acting like a total brat, and actually followed my safety orders. She told me everywhere she was going, when and with whom. She didn’t seem to care that I was her constant shadow — in fact, she made every effort to always remain in my line of sight so that I knew she was safe. I was actually pleasantly surprised when her partying slowed down. Sure, she still spenthoursin boutiques, coffee shops and make-up stores with Brittany and Courtney. And sometimes they went out for a meal at an exclusive restaurant and had a few cocktails. But other nights, she was more than happy to remain at home. And if Mrs. And Mr. Blythe went out, Alyssa cooked for both of us and we watched a movie together or something.
It was actually quite nice. I saw a whole new side to her I hadn’t expected when we’d first met. Yes, she was a princessy brat still at times, especially when she was out with her friends. But she was also intelligent, an amazing cook, really sweet and considerate, and had a love for old Hollywood movies I hadn’t been expecting.
Recently, I’d noticed though, she didn’t seem quite as bubbly and lively as she had when we first met. I imagined the threat looming over her family, and the uncertainty of the situation was beginning to take its toll, and I felt bad for her.
No one deserved to live in fear for their and their parents lives. The Blythes had already lost one child, and I knew losing a second might destroy them. Alyssa seemed to know that too.
Wanting to do something nice to cheer her up, and ‘reward’ her for her recent cooperation and good behavior, while Alyssa made us lunch one afternoon, I discreetly got in touch with her favorite boutique. I arranged for the store to close early, and host just Alyssa and I for the rest of the afternoon, so that she could have a private and secure shopping spree without having to worry about anything.
