The three women piled into the Range Rover like everything was perfectly fine, and we hadn’t just been on the verge of Alyssa going nuclear. I wasn’t about to look a gift horse in the mouth and said nothing. Instead, I started the ignition and drove to a great shawarma place I knew of.

Alyssa and her friends gathered on the takeout place’s plastic seats as they enjoyed their post-club snack. Then, once the three women had sated their need for spit-roasted meat and salad wrapped in a flatbread, they all got back into the Range Rover.

By now, the alcohol and drugs Alyssa and her friends had consumed were wearing off, and they were all silent as I dropped Courtney off at her home in Holmby Hills, and then Brittany at her home in Bel Air.

Finally, we arrived back at the Blythe Estate, and I followed behind Alyssa as she entered the house and made her way straight to the kitchen.

For a moment, I assumed she was just going to grab a drink and maybe some painkillers, and then go to bed, and my work would be done for the night. But Alyssa paused at the kitchen island counter and turned to me with narrowed eyes that glowed dangerously in the darkness.

ALYSSA

“Don’t youeverembarrass me like that in front of my friends again,” I hissed in a low, dangerous voice.

My gaze was locked with David’s, and for a moment, I saw a flash of panic in his dark eyes. But then the look was replaced by one of frustration.

“I’ll do more than embarrass you in front of your friends if you pull another stunt like you did in the club!”

I curled my hands into fists at my side. “You’re just jealous it was Tyler who had his hands all over my body, and not you!”

David’s eyes widened for an instant, but then his expression turned stoic once more, and he said, “Don’t be ridiculous. You think you’re God’s gift to mankind, well you’re not. There arehundredsof women like you in LA. You’re nothing special. But I’ve been paid to do a job and I won’t let you or your childish mind games interfere with that.”

Howdarehe?!

“Childish?! I’ll give you childish … If you don’t stop with the overprotective bullshit, I’m going to make your life hell.”

David laughed incredulously. “You thinkthatwas overprotective?” He said, advancing on me slowly until I was pushed up against the island counter.

“You’ve seennothingyet.”

I braced my hands against David’s chest, and tried to push him back, but he was too strong, and easily grabbed my wrists and held my hands above my head.

He took another step closer, so that our chests were pressed together. I wascertainhe was going to feel my heart pounding in my chest, but if he did, he didn’t mention it. Instead, he stared down into my eyes, his own dark and intense, and for a moment, I felt my resolve weaken.

God, he smeltso good. And the brief feel I’d gotten of his body made me certain David would have rock hard abs under that suit.

I was already all hot and bothered after my make out session with Tyler had been cut short. And even then, I’d only snuck away with the blond guy to make David jealous and see what his reaction would be.

The way he’d yanked Tyler away from me told meeverythingI needed to know.

He wanted me.

This wasn’t just about doing his job and keeping me safe.

I allowed a small, satisfied smirk to curl my lips as I gazed up at David and saw him gulp.

“Admit it, you want me.”

David’s nostrils flared. “You’re beautiful, I’ll admit that. And used to getting your own way, but it won’t work on me.”

I raised a dark eyebrow, allowing myself to fully smirk this time, as I asked, “Won’t it?”

I closed the distance between us, pressing my lips to his, and waiting for David’s reaction. He hesitated for a moment only, before letting go of my arms, so that his hands could cup the back of my head, as he deepened the kiss and his tongue delved into my mouth.

I suppressed a self-satisfied smile as I let David take control and revelled in the feeling of his hands skimming over my body.

His kisses were hungry and desperate, and left me breathless. When his mouth moved down my neck, and he sucked on the pulse point at my throat, a small moan escaped my lips.
