“No ma’am. We didn’t tell him anything. But he’s being quite insistent. Would you like me to contact Dr. Jasper?”

She sighed. “No. I'll call him. Please don’t tell Parker I live here.”

When the call disconnected, she dialed Noah.

“He fucking followed me home. Now he’s in the lobby trying to find out if I’m living here.”

Noah cursed. “Stay inside. Don’t let anyone up. I’m in Canada right now so I can’t come rescue you. But I can send someone to protect you.”

“Do you think I need protection from Parker?”

“He’s harassing you. So yes, I think you need protection. Security isn’t only to keep someone from killing you, Reva.”

“OK. I don’t want to cause problems for you. He’s…”

“Reva, so help me if you remind me he’s my son one more time…”

“Sorry. I’m so nervous.”

“Don’t be. We’ll handle this. Now, are you naked like a good girl?”

“Noah please. Take this seriously.”

“It’s Sir. And I am. If you don’t trust that, we shouldn’t move forward with our arrangement.”

His tone was harsh, and it took her by surprise.

“I’m sorry. I do trust you. It just hardly seems like the time to play.”

“I’ve already contacted Gage Allard. You’ve met him, and I trust him with my life, which means I trust him to keep you safe. For now, he’ll just look into how Parker got the information about us.”

“Shit. I forgot to tell you. He told me someone he knows saw us at The Studio the other night and that we looked cozy.”

“So that mystery is solved. I’m sure it had to be a shock to him to hear that we were together. Especially since he does know that I’m the one who helped you get out of New York. He was cheating on you for five years, but he’s going to wonder if you’ve been cheating on him, too. That’s just how brains like his work.”

“I hear you.”

“Good. Now go turn on the shower and start getting ready for bed. I’ll talk to you until you’re under the covers.”

True to his word, he stayed on the phone with her through her bedtime routine, and he didn’t even try to make it sexual.

“Are you feeling any better about this?” he asked as she was turning down the blankets on the bed and rearranged the pillows the way she wanted them.

“Maybe a little. Thanks for staying with me.”

He hummed. It was a sultry sound that sent a little thrill through her. “Of course. You’re important to me. But now you need to get some sleep. I’ll be home tomorrow afternoon, and as long as you still want to sign the contract, I plan to keep you very busy tomorrow night. Get a nap after work if you can.”

“Sir?” she whispered.

“Yeah, little siren?”

“Will you stay on the phone until I fall asleep?”

“I’ll read to you. How does that sound?”

Her eyes lit up even though he couldn’t see her. “I would love that. Being read to is so soothing.”

“I’ve been reading an interesting biography.”
