She shrugged. “It never seemed relevant. And I didn’t know for sure. It was a hunch. Because he started acting different when he found out about it. At first, he was mad. But then he was really romantic, and he invited me on that New York trip and things were… odd.”

“Do you want to talk about it?”

She shook her head. “Not really. But you probably deserve to hear why I’m not using it when I desperately needed the money, so I’ll tell you about it if you want.”

He crooked a finger and motioned her further into the room as he patted his knee with his other hand.

“Come sit.”

She did, and he put his arms around her waist.

“It doesn’t matter why you won’t use it. If you tell me there is a legitimate reason, I believe you. And if you don’t want to talk about it you don’t have to. But knowing this information does help us figure out the best way to deal with Parker, so I appreciate knowing what I do. And I’m very sorry he treated you that way. You didn’t deserve that.”

She laid her head against his chest, and he kissed her crown.

“Thank you. Sorry, I fell asleep on you. It was a really exhausting day and it just kind of happened.”

“Don’t apologize. Just try to get some more sleep in the future. We’ll keep things light tonight so you can go to bed early.”

She frowned.

“What is it?”

“We’ve been keeping it light a lot, and I’ve been having trouble sleeping. Maybe something not so light would help.”

He raised an eyebrow, amused by her logic. But there was something to it. Sometimes a physically or emotionally intense scene could help shut the brain off enough to help them sleep.

“Let’s get through dinner, and then if you’re still up for it we’ll kick things up a notch.”

She gave him a shy smile but nodded eagerly. “Yes, please.”

He chuckled. “I do have a needy little slut on my hands. Don’t worry, sweet Reva. I’ll take care of you.”

Chapter 16

Reva

HearingtheconfirmationthatParker was after her trust fund was enough to derail Reva’s entire week. And it might have if Noah hadn’t been there. When she came into the building and found them confronting each other in the lobby, it had pissed her off and she wanted them both to leave. But waking up to find him sitting in her office dissipated the last of the irritation, and she was ready to play. But first she wanted to find out what he knew about Parker’s situation. Something was off with him and it didn’t make sense.

In the kitchen, she leaned against the island with a robe belted at the waist and watched him as he moved around the space with practiced ease. She was pretty sure Parker had never seen the inside of a kitchen when he was growing up because he couldn’t boil water in a microwave.

Reva enjoyed cooking but rarely took the time because of her class and work schedule.

“What did Parker want?” she asked.

“I’m not sure. He was in the lobby when I arrived. I’m pissed that security didn’t ask him to leave immediately. He’s already been here trying to cause you problems once before.”

“And how did you find out about the trust fund?”

“Gage.”

“He told me he was going to do a deep dive into Parker not me.”

He sighed. “I know. But looking into Parker means looking into all his partners. He also looked into Monica.”

She made an ugly face at the mention of her name.

“He says he got dumped.”
