Her breath caught. What on earth would that woman want with her? “Give me one second to check with my security.”

She put the phone down and stuck her head out into the common area where the guard had set up station at an empty desk.

“Is everything OK, Ms. Calhoun?”

She motioned for him to come closer so the interns working next to him wouldn’t hear.

“The woman my ex was cheating on me with is in reception asking to see me, but I don’t know how involved she is in all of this. What should I do?”

He pulled out a phone and held it to his ear. “Did we ever get a background on Monica Parrish?” There was a pause, and then he tucked the phone back into his pocket.

“I’ll go talk to her. Do you want to see her or not?”

Reva shrugged. “Part of me is curious to find out what she wants, but I don’t want to put anyone in danger or cause trouble by hearing her out. I’m going to call Noah while you talk to her.”

The guard nodded and headed for the doors that led to reception while Reva picked up her cell phone.

“Siren, what’s wrong?” Noah asked when he answered.

“Monica is here and I don’t know why. The bodyguard is grilling her in reception, but I wanted to see if you had any qualms about me talking to her.”

He was quiet, but Reva could hear voices in the background. “I’ve interrupted something important. I’m sorry.”

“Don’t apologize. I’ll always answer your call. Always. Thank you for calling me about this, but it’s your choice to make.”

“Do you think it will cause problems? You seem to not like her very much.”

Noah laughed, but it was more of a disgusted snort. “I should have told you this right away, but I spent a month with her.”

“Like…” she trailed off, suddenly sick to her stomach.

“Nothing like what we have. But yes, the same arrangement.”

She sighed. “Don’t lie, Noah. You don’t need to pretend that what we share is more special than what you’ve done with other women. They all got the same contract, the same filthy sex, and then you sent them on their way. Please don’t make me think this is any different from that. My heart can’t take it.”

He let out a frustrated growl that took her by surprise. “This is special, Reva. Why do you think I altered the contract the way I did? Why do you think I spend every fucking night in your bed?”

“Don’t curse at me.”

He laughed. “I can call you a cock whore, but I can’t curse at you when I’m frustrated?”

He had a point, but she was still pissed off.

“So do you want me to have a conversation with your ex fuck toy or not? How many women have you and Parker shared?”

“Reva, don’t. I’ll tell you everything at home tonight, OK?”

“Fine.”

She ended the call and tossed it in the top drawer of her desk.

Something told her if she was still speaking to him tonight she was going to pay for hanging up on him, but she didn’t care right now. He was infuriating.

The guard stuck his head in. “She says she wants to clear the air and give you some intel on Dr. Jasper.”

“Send her back. Let’s hear what she has to say.”

The guard nodded and stepped out again. When Monica appeared in her doorway a few minutes early, Reva pasted on a fake smile and motioned her in.
