“Come for me, Kenzie,” he growled. The tension in his voice told her he was also on the edge.
“Come with me,” she pleaded, wanting to ride the wave with him.
He pumped into her three more times, going still all the way inside of her on the third thrust. His fingers dug into her hips, the pain sparking enough endorphins that she fell over the edge just as he let out a loud growl and came with her.
As the pleasure subsided, she collapsed onto her stomach and sucked in air, trying to slow her pulse. “Jesus Christ, is this what sex is always supposed to be like?”
Gage let out a quiet laugh as he bent and kissed her back. “God, I hope so, because it was fucking perfect. I’ll be right back.”
He disappeared for a minute and came back with a warm washcloth and gently cleaned her up. She rolled onto her back to stare up at him as he cleaned himself off, then tossed the rag into a pile of dirty clothes nearby.
“Gage?”
“Yeah, little imp?”
“I’m glad you came to see me.”
He grinned and laid down next to her. “Nothing could have kept me away.”
Chapter 7
Kenzie
Gage’s warm hand enveloped Kenzie’s as they stepped out of her apartment and made their way to his truck. She couldn’t believe he’d driven this monstrosity to New York. It was so big, he had to help her in, and then he stood with her door open and waited until she buckled her seatbelt to walk around to the driver’s side and climb in.
Gage seemed tense as they eased into New York traffic, and she didn’t want to distract him, so she stayed quiet. He hadn’t clued her in on where they were going, merely told her they had something important to take care of.
After a while, though, the silence got to her, and she had to talk. “Where are you taking me?”
He flicked his gaze to her as they stopped at a red light. “Don’t recognize the neighborhood during the day, huh?”
Looking out her window, and up at the various buildings, she frowned. Now that she was paying attention, it did look familiar. A knot formed in her stomach when they passed Millie’s, the diner where she waited for Patrick and Austin last night. It didn’t take a genius to guess where they were going.
“I thought you said I couldn’t go back to The Cage.”
“We’re going to have a little chat with the owner,” Gage said, as if that made all the difference in the world.
The knot in her stomach grew, and she put a pleading hand on his shoulder. “Please don’t start a fight or get arrested.”
Gage chuckled. “Don’t worry, little imp.”
The light turned green, and he glanced at her again. “We never did get back to my ex. What was her name?”
She closed her eyes, not wanting to talk about the girl who’d made her feel so inadequate. But Gage wasn’t the type to just drop something, so she closed her eyes and told the truth. “Evie.”
Gage cursed. “I should have known she would wind up at a place like The Cage. Ex is a strong word. We messed around for a couple of weeks right before…” he trailed off, leaving Kenzie to wonder when they’d messed around.
When it was clear he didn’t intend to finish the sentence, she pushed him. “Before what?”
His grip tightened on the steering wheel, making her nervous about his answer. “Right before Reggie died. Not long after that, she moved to New York for a job. She was obsessed with Peter Mercer. I think you’ve met him once or twice, and he was in the process of falling in love with the woman he’s currently married to.”
Kenzie laughed and shook her head. “So, you were doing him a favor by fucking her? Do you ever do anything only for yourself?”
He winced. “Harsh. We had fun at the time. That’s all it ever was. What did she say to you?”
Kenzie blew out a breath. “I don’t want to talk about it. Where are you planning to park this beast?”
“Answer the question, Kenz. What the fuck did she say to you?”
