Kenzie smiled. “He really does.”

After Maggie got dressed and left for work, Kenzie sat in her office and tried to get some work of her own done.

A loud banging on her door interrupted her before she could get into the groove, and she got up to see who it was. It was weird that the doorman didn’t alert her that someone was coming up.

“Kenzie, open the goddamn door.”

Her stomach lurched.

That voice.

She hadn’t heard that voice in more than five years.

“If you don’t open the fucking door, I’m kicking it down, Gabs-a-lot.”

Hearing the childhood nickname—taken from her middle name—sent a chill up her spine, but she jerked the door open anyway, prepared to claw someone’s eyes out for trying to play a dirty trick on her.

But it wasn’t a trick.

He was there.

Right in front of her.

Like the bastard hadn’t been dead for the past five years. She’d sobbed at his funeral and clutched the flag the soldier had knelt and handed her. It wasn’t possible for him to be here. But she was staring right at him.

Christopher fucking Reginald.

Her big brother came back from the grave.

Chapter 19

Kenzie

“Reggie?” She whispered as unexpected tears spilled from her eyes.

“Let me in.”

The anger in his eyes confused her. What was he doing here? Why did he look so mad?

But she stepped aside as if on autopilot, and he stormed into the apartment.

He looked around and scowled. “Where is he?”

“Where is who?” she asked, the confusion growing by the second.

“Fucking Gage.” He stalked through the living room and into the bathroom.

“Gage is in D.C. What is this about? Come talk to me. I don’t understand. We were told you died and were crematedaccording to your wishes. I was so pissed when they did it before I got to see you one last time.”

“It’s complicated, but I’ve been undercover. We’ll talk about that later.”

He stared at the bathroom counter, and Kenzie realized that Maggie had left the tests on the counter. They were all glaringly positive. Fuck. He was going to think they were hers, and she wouldn’t get a chance to explain before he went off like the hot head he’d always been. Somehow, she didn’t think being dead for five years would change that part of her big brother.

“Reggie, what are you doing here?”

He blew out a long breath and wrapped her in a hug, and she sobbed against his chest.

“I’m going to fucking kill him. I’ll be back when I’ve handled it and we can talk about what to do.” he said, stepping back.
