“Now get on with it,” Voovoo calls out.
Brax nods. “Okay. Like I said, I quit my job and I plan to move here with Ollie permanently.”
“Plan?” Elsa asks in dismay. “I thought it was a done deal.”
“All right. Bad word choice. Ollie and I are not leaving Moonstruck Cove. We’re moving here permanently.”
Elsa grins. “That’s better.”
“Come see me for a job, Brax!” a man shouts.
Brax’s brows furrow as he looks at the speaker, and I whisper in his ear. “That’s Pete, the local bank manager.”
“Right.” He smiles. “Thank you, Pete. I truly appreciate that. But I have something else in mind.” He turns to his family. “Would you be happy for me to join you in Moonstruck Lodge?”
“What kind of question is that?” Evan asks. “Of course. You can stay in your cabin indefinitely until you find a bigger place.”
“No. I mean, I want to invest in Moonstruck Lodge and be partners with you. It’s time we expand it—build the extra accommodation you’ve always dreamed of.”
Elsa and Evan look at each other, and they burst into tears. Liss, too.
“You have such a large amount of land,” Brax continues, “that we can triple the available accommodation with more luxury cabins and another main house—bigger but not higher. That is, if the Mooners don’t have any objections.” He addresses the crowd. “We promise we will keep the buildings in harmony with the environment. And, of course, we’ll follow all due processes to get our development application approved.”
“No problems at all!” Maggie cries out.
“It’s about time,” Cutie says. “It’ll mean we can accommodate more tourists and it’ll be better for all of us here.”
“Yeah! More jobs for Mooners!” Voovoo says.
Everyone cheers.
Dad jumps to his feet. “And Ford is gonna invest in Moonstruck Chocolatier so we promise that Theo’s First will come out this year!”
The cheering reaches a deafening level.
Brax looks at me. “You’re stuck with me and Ollie now.”
I grin. “That’s not a hardship at all. You’restuck with me and all the rest of the Mooners now.”
“Can’t think of anything better.”
Then, right then and there in front of almost everyone in town, Brax gives me the sweetest, most loving kiss. As we part to catch our breaths, he speaks in my ear. “That’s a tame kiss. We’ll save the wild for when we’re alone.”
“Uh, guys,” Emory said, “mic’s still on.”
“Wild! Wild! Wild! Wild! Wild!” our audience chants.
I grab the mic. “In your dreams, people.”
Laughing, Brax and I leave the stage. I can’t wait to be alone with him.
What a wild day this has been.
