I stifle a groan as I pull out of Joey. Cuddling for a few minutes after we both have our always-sensational orgasms has become one of our favourite things to do, but it looks like we’ll miss out on it this morning.
“At least he has excellent timing,” Joey says with a soft giggle as she gets out of bed and runs to the bathroom.
“Coming!” I call out to Ollie. The door’s not locked, but we’ve asked him to always knock first and wait to be invited in before entering. He’s such a respectful kid.
“Are you awake?” he asks.
“I’m talking to you, am I not?” I put on pyjama bottoms.
“What about Joey?”
“She’s in the bathroom.”
“Oh, she’s getting ready already?” He sounds pleased.
I grin. “Yes.”
“What about you, Dad? Have you had a shower?”
“Not yet.”
“What?!Why not?”
I chuckle as I open the door. “What’s the hurry?” I ask as I bend down to give him a good morning hug and kiss.
Ollie looks horrified. “Have you forgotten what day it is?”
I pretend to think.
Ollie huffs and walks into the room. He knocks on the bathroom door. “Joey?”
“Yes, darling?”
“Do you know what day it is?”
“It’s Saturday.”
Ollie rolls his eyes. “No. I mean what special day it is.”
Quietly, I retrieve a package from under the bed, careful not to attract my son’s attention.
Joey opens the bathroom door. “Hmm. Yes, I seem to remember that today’s a special day.”
Ollie nods encouragingly.
Grinning, she sits on her haunches and opens her arms. “Happy birthday! You’re five years old today!”
Ollie launches himself at her, laughing. “Thank you! Dad couldn’t remember—” He sees the package in my hands and gasps.
“Happy birthday, bud! How could you think I forgot your birthday?”
He runs to me. “What is it?”
I shrug. “You have to open it to find out.”
With the enthusiasm of a five-year-old, he tears open the gift. “What?! I can’t believe this! A stomp rocket launcher!”
Joey and I chuckle. Ollie has been telling everyone who’d listen that he wants this toy that he saw someone play with on a YouTube video. We’ve had to tell people we’re getting it for him so he won’t receive duplicate gifts.
