“Yes. And I don’t expect these kinds of shenanigans toeverhappen again to me or anyone else at GX. Understand?”
“Yes.”
“Good. And thank you.”
“Sure,” he says dryly. “Glad we came to a mutually beneficial agreement.”
“Bye, Lando.” I hang up and raise my arms in triumph.
Ollie and I have another two months here at Moonstruck Cove with our family.
And two months to spend with Joey.
Beyond that, well, we’ll have to continue figuring it out. We might decide to give a long-distance relationship a go. Or we might discover that what we have is just a flash in the pan. Or…Joey might agree to move to New York. That would be the perfect scenario.
And what if Joey decides not to pursue anything with me?
Then the next two months will be hellish like no other.

JOEY
I’m doingsome dusting in my studio because that’s the only task I’m capable of completing right now. Since asking Brax to leave me at Pointy End, my heart has been hurting so badly that I’m just not up for anything.
I’ve never felt this way before. The sense of loss is so much worse than anything I’ve experienced. Even my bad breakup with my city-slicker ex was nothing compared to this.
I guess it’s because it’s not only Brax I’m losing. It’s Ollie, too.
Dad barges through the courtyard door, waving to me frantically. “Family meeting!”
“What’s wrong?” I ask in surprise, dropping the duster and following him to the kitchen next door.
Mum sets a pot of tea in the middle of our meeting table, looking at Dad with concern. “Will you calm down?” she asks.
“We’re getting worried here,” Josie adds, grabbing some tea cups from the cupboard.
Dad shakes his arms. “Things are just happening so fast that I’m still trying to catch my breath.”
“Sit down, Dad.” I gently push him into a chair.
“Okay, let me start.” He picks up a cup of tea but sets it down immediately. “Too hot.”
Mum shakes her head. “Let it cool down a bit. Andyoucool down a bit.”
He takes a slow deep breath. “Another company is offering to buy Choc at Old.”
“What?” Mum looks aghast.
“Who?” I ask in consternation.
“They won’t tell me. But they did say they’re considering that other offer very seriously.”
“Is their finance ready?” Josie asks.
Dad shrugs. “Who knows? But if they already made the offer, I’d say so.”
