Archer cuts him off when he says, “But we’re going with my suggestion because it’s the safest one.”

“We agree,” Hayden states.

My brother glares at the twins. “Only because you two are jealous we were offered a contract, and you want one for Areion Fury as well.”

Heath shrugs. “It would be nice. Not necessary, though. Areion Fury has been handling shit ourselves for many decades. Basically, as long as we’ve been working side-by-side with Broken Deeds.”

I’m grinning due to the whole back and forth barbs Heath and Hayden are giving when Kenz pinches my side. Staring down on her, she wrinkles her nose and quickly shakes her head. The corner of my mouth twitches and I shrug which in return makes her roll her eyes.

Fuck, I love the way we communicate on a level where words aren’t needed.

“Focus on the damn case, folks.” My brother sighs. “Then it’s decided, we’re going for Archer’s suggestion.”

“Best decision since I have a solid undercover reputation already in place with credentials everywhere dating back years. I can offer myself and a few others,” Archer states.

Lenz is making his fingers dance on the keyboard of his laptop when Kenz suddenly asks, “How does this work? Does Amadeo demand new recruits prove themselves by kidnapping me or something? Place a huge amount of money on my or Falcon’s head?”

“One, all,” Archer mutters.

Kenz releases a curse.

“That was fast,” Lenz mutters, drawing the attention of all of us.

“What was that?” Thorsten asks.

Lenz keeps typing, his gaze locked on the screen in front of him when he says, “I applied to Amadeo’s request on the dark web when you guys decided it was the way to go. A few seconds later I received a message with an assignment.”

We all gather around him and he clicks a few times until the screen fills with the instruction email. Silence fills the room while we all read the words.

“Why does he want me alive but Falcon dead?” Kenz asks.

I wince while her cousin doesn’t have any issues giving her the truth. “Probably to make you suffer since his woman died.”

Reaching for her hand, I squeeze her fingers.

I want to give her comforting words, but instead it’s Heath who says, “We’re not going to let anything happen to you, or your old man, sis.”

“Good, because I think you guys should go for the first option.” Kenz glances at me. “Think about it. If they say they managed to kidnap me Amadeo will surely make an appearance. We could trap him and then end all of this once and for all.”

I shake my head, not liking this one damn bit.

Kenz grabs my leather cut and pulls me close. “Take out the fact it’s me and then look at it from a different perspective. You know it’s the best option. Having me means he needs to come and check. You could give him a photograph as proof, and he will come. It’s the safest option for all of us and you know it.”

Fuck. I know she’s right, but I still don’t have to fucking like it. With a load of resentment, I give a nod to back up my old lady’s choice. Even if my gut tells me this is the biggest mistake of my whole damn life.

CHAPTER FIFTEEN

– KENZ –

“When you’re done stuffing your face we could chat, or maybe you could take a small break to breathe, and I’ll do the talking.” I blink a few times at Livi who is eating like she’s been starving for weeks.

She’s sitting on the couch across from me and I swear she’s surrounded by chips, ice cream, cookies, strawberries, sausages, cake, and some other undefined stuff I presume is edible as well.

I get a glare when she swallows and reaches for a bottle of water.

Chugging down half, she finally takes a breath and says, “Wait till you get knocked up by your very own Rhyland brother, then we’ll talk.”

My mouth opens, but the reply gets stuck in my throat. The pregnancy innuendo is a reminder of the discussion Falcon and I were having before they tried to kill us.
