He laughed and kissed her on the chin. “You can’t lose this job.”
He carried her all the way to the truck out front, keeping to the tree line to avoid the heat.
“All my stuff,” she said, glad that her most important things were still in storage.
“I’ll buy you all new stuff,” Trent said. “And you’re coming to live with me.”
“Ok, then,” Rowan said.
At the truck, he grabbed clothes, and then he picked her back up again. He carried her to the tree house. He made his way up the log steps, and once they were inside, he gave her some dry clothes.
“This is all I have. They will be too big for you.”
She didn’t mind. She yanked off her wet clothes, ignoring her man’s growl at her naked body, and pulled the t-shirt and men’s pants on. She had to roll the pants at the waist several times, but at least they were dry and she was covered.
Trent was already dressed. He looked at her. She looked at him. She moved in close and touched him again and again, scarcely able to believe that they were still alive, that they had all made it through that ok. She touched his face. She touched his chest. She touched his legs, and his ass, and his package, then back up to his face again. He smiled, took her hand, and put it back down where he wanted it, on what was now a steel rod in his pants. She squeezed it hard, just enough to tell him that if they were really and truly safe for the moment, he could carry her off anywhere and prove it to her. She was game.
He bent and kissed her on her neck and cheek, but made no other moves, so she looked outside, searching for Troy and Reed, wanting to see them again, too, convince herself again that they were ok. They were fine. Troy was still naked. He was sitting on a chair facing the blazing fire with Reed on his lap, and they were making out like two teenagers at a bonfire.
Trent took her hand and they went down to join them.

Halfway down, Trent could not take so much separation between him and his female, so he picked her up and carried her the rest of the way, her legs wrapped around him tightly, his hands on her fine ass, her hands buried in his hair, while they kissed. When they got to where Troy and Reed were, Troy kicked out a chair for him.
Have a seat, the fire is hot and the company is hotter.
Trent sat. Rowan settled in on his chest, and just kissed him. She kissed him like he was going off to war—or he’d just returned. She kissed him like they were the only two people in the world. He kissed her right back the same way, fully, openly, and with his whole and complete heart. It was all he had to offer her at that moment, but something told him it was enough.
The sound of the sirens coming closer told them the fire department was close. Still they kissed. Air brakes and men yelling told them the fire department had arrived. Still they kissed. The fire hissed and screamed as water gushed on it from many sides. Still, they kissed.
Somebearencame around the building, yelling to each other. Trent could not see them, but he could hear and scent them. One of them ran past them. “What in the hell are you wolves doing?” he bellowed. “We bears have to do every damn thing today.”
Trent broke off from kissing his mate long enough to give the guy a calculated smile. “You do your job and let us do ours,” he said.
Troy also broke off kissing for just a moment. “Right. We don’t tell your furry asses how to pull hose, do we?”
Thebearen, still running, flipped them off.
Trevor spoke to him inruhi, sounding strong and clear.Come out front for a field briefing. The command post is roving right now, we’re all on mop up, and you’re our first stop.
Trent disengaged himself from his female. “My brother is out front,” he said. She looked at Troy. “My other brother,” he said. “I think we’re going to get to go home.”
“Home,” she sighed, like she liked the sound of that.
He put her down and they walked hand in hand past the fire, past the hose, past the big males in their fire gear, playing with all their toys.
The police truck was idling just behind the last fire truck, sitting in the middle of the road. Trent took his mate that way. Harlan was driving, Eventine was next to him in the passenger seat, Wade and Trevor were in back. Perfect. They were all staring at him and talking at once. About him, of course. Trent could only grin. He stood up a little straighter. He stuck out his chest a little farther. He pulled his mate’s hand to his lips and kissed it one time, his eyes on his brother.
He walked up to the open driver’s window and clasped hands with Harlan. He introduced Rowan. She raised her hand and said ‘hi’ all around, then saw Reed and Troy coming up the driveway. She kissed Trent on the cheek and whispered she was going to go talk to Reed. He nodded to her and she slipped away.
Harlan looked to be in a great mood. He lifted his chin at Trent. “So that’s your face, huh. Who knew. What’s up with those ears?”
“Fuck off, Harlan,” Trent said, grinning hard. “Don’t be jealous.”
Eventine leaned over him, smiling. “You look good, Trent, really good.”
Harlan’s expression went stone-cold and he growled at Trent. Eventine laughed and hit him on the shoulder. “What’s wrong with you, Harlan? You can’t tell me he doesn’t look good.”
