“He doesn’t lookthatgood,” Harlan said.
Eventine pinched him on the chest then kissed him on the cheek. “He doesn’t look as good as my mate, but he looks good.”
Harlan calmed and he captured Eventine’s lips in a kiss.
Wade opened the back door and came out and shook Trent’s hand. “Good job, son, good job here, good job on your mission.”
Trent raised an eyebrow. “What do you know about my mission?”
Wade raised an eyebrow back. “Not much, not yet. Fill us in.” He climbed back in the truck to listen.
Trent leaned in the front window and recounted what had happened to him quickly and dispassionately. He told everything he could remember about the other world and in the meadow. He explained that his time in the meadow was not clear like normal memories, but he was pretty sure he’d been tossed out for insubordination to Rhen. He watched Wade and Eventine both closely as he said that. Neither of them displayed any negative reaction. In fact, Eventine seemed pleased. He was surprised. His whole life, anytime he’d said anything slightly critical of Rhen, he’d never found another wolf who agreed with him. He told the entire story, then laid out the things Smokey had told him on the way back.
He looked at Trevor. “Smokey said to tell you that Blake’s coma is related to Khain’s passage in and out of his own dimension and there’s nothing you can do. He will live or die according to future events.”
Trevor nodded darkly. “Damn, did he say why that would be?”
“The cat wasn’t too big on details.” He looked at Eventine. “Smokey said to tell you that Crew needs watching and that’s the piece you are missing.”
Eventine’s eyes went wide in an ‘oooohhh,’ look.
Trent addressed them all. “And I’m supposed to tell you the statues are no threat and they aren’t self-animating in most circumstances—those were his exact words. He also said we have to utilize them and the mates must be expected to fully explore their powers for this to become clear, Dahlia especially.”
That got Wade and Trevor talking animatedly in the back seat. Trent interrupted them. “My mate needs a lab to work in. She’s going to fix this vaccine issue we have, I’m sure of it, if she hasn’t already. I wouldn’t be surprised if she could figure out other things, too, like how to preserve the healing properties ofdragenblood so we could carry it around with us.”
“I’ll get to work on it,” Trevor said. He handed Trent a ring of four shiny silver keys. “You’ve got a surprise at home. It’s in cabin number 9.”
Trent took the keys. He shared a look with his brother. “Thanks,” he said. “For everything.”
Trevor clasped his hand. “Anytime, brother, anytime.”
57 - Cabin Number 9
Troy drove them home. Reed sat right up next to him in the front seat of the truck, curled into his side, touching him, talking softly to him. Trent and Rowan were in the back seat, just making out. Trent thought he could kiss his mate forever, kissing was that much fun. His dick was hard as stone in his pants, but it seemed unimportant. For now, he just wanted to kiss.
They pulled into the driveway at VF. The place was quiet and dark and Trent had never seen it like that. He stuck his nose in the air and determined pretty quickly that they were the only ones there.
“Trevor said the surprise was in cabin 9,” he told Troy.
“There is no cabin 9,” Troy said. “But I’ll go look.” He gave Reed one kiss, then slipped out of the truck and shifted, leaving his clothes in a messy pile in the driveway. Reed followed, but Troy was fast. He ran around the back of the house, then returned before she’d disappeared from their view.
He shifted in front of Trent and Rowan. “Give me those keys,” he told Trent, naked as the day he was born. Trent tossed the keys to him then turned to Rowan. She was leaning against the side of the vehicle, examining the stars in the sky.
“Sorry about my brother,” he told her, leaning in to nuzzle her neck. “You might have to get used to seeing his naked ass.”
“It’s not his ass I’m worried about,” she said.
He took her hand and pressed it to his own hard cock. She grasped it eagerly through his pants, but pressed her body against him so no one could see what she was doing. “Don’t worry,” he said. “There’s no one here but us.”
She kissed him, then looked around. “So this is home,” she said. “How long do you think we’ll have it all to ourselves?” She nibbled on her lower lip and he had to wonder what she was thinking. Something dirty, he was certain.
“What do you have in mind?” he asked. “Sex under the stars?”
“Maybe,” she said, her voice soft, her body warm and compliant under his hands.
Troy yelled for them from somewhere around the back.
“He’ll just yell louder if we don’t go,” Trent said.
