Jana stared at me thoughtfully. “You know, your new talent could come in handy.”
“How?”
“If the family can’t find the will, you ask the dearly departed where it is.”
The backdoor buzzer sounded.
“That has to be Enrique. Go take your shower and we’ll get started on your transformation from fugitive to debutante,” Jana said.
I gave her a slight bow. “Yes, fairy godmother.”
Chapter Five
I glanced at the mirror and did a double-take. Whoa! Was that me? I waved at the mirror.
The image waved back at me.
Holy cow! Jana was right. No one would recognize me. I was almost beautiful. My long black hair had been cut into a wispy pixie style. The cut emphasized my cheekbones and silver highlights made my grayish blue eyes pop.
Tammy had outdone herself. My skin was flawless, my eyes sultry with long, thick, bat-worthy lashes and my mouth was a crimson pout.
The red off the shoulder A-line dress accented my figure to perfection. Three- inch black heels completed my outfit.
Janna clapped her hands. “Bow-chicka-wow-wow. You’re gonna knock them dead.”
“Thanks.” I turned around and my jaw dropped. Jana was eye-catching in a strappy, open-back magenta dress. It showcased her long elegant legs and creamy mocha skin. “Wow! Frederick’s so gonna regret dumping you for the mayor’s ugly daughter. Her name is Buffy, right?”
“It is, and the toad is bringing her to the benefit tonight,” Jana said grimly.
“His loss. Remember, you’re every man’s wet dream in that dress. Who knows, you might even find a guy worthy of you.”
Jana grimaced. “Maybe.”
“Remember Fredrick was a toad masquerading as prince charming. He was jealous of your success and did everything in his power to demean you. If he tries anything tonight, I’ll crush his itty-bitty balls,” I promised.
A fierce determination filled Jana’s eyes. “No. I will.”
“Good.” About friggin’ time. Jana had moped over the jerk way too long.
Enrique, a hot Latino male wearing a black silk shirt, walked in with a perfectly groomed Tinkerbell. A sparkly red bow rested between her ears. “Aren’t you pretty,” I exclaimed.
Tinkerbell woofed in agreement.
I took the Yorkie from Enrique. “Are you doing anything tonight?”
He gave me a dazzling white smile. “I would be happy to escort three beautiful females to the benefit.”
Jana inquired dryly, “You do know he’s gay, right?”
“Frederick doesn’t know that,” I countered.
A wicked smile curled Jana’s mouth. “True.” She took Enrique’s left arm. “Shall we?”
“It would be my pleasure.”
“Champagne, caviar and doggie treats. What more could we want?” I took his right arm.
Tinkerbell barked her agreement.
