The feelings of shame quickly dampened my arousal. I reached down and moved Celeste’s panties to cover her, then shifted her so that I could discreetly put my cock away. How had she enamored me to the point where I nearly forgot everything she was responsible for?
“What? What happened?” She whispered as she sensed the change in me. I had to grit my teeth to stop thinking about how badly I wanted to be in her right now. This scent match was more powerful than I ever imagined.
“Nothing. People are starting to notice.” I said, although that wasn’t the truth. I couldn’t trust myself around her. And I needed to get away from her soon, before I did something neither of us could ever take back.
Chapter 26
Celeste
By the time the concert was over, I was one hundred percent annoyed and even more aroused. Annoyed at Liam and his cocky, dominant, alpha attitude, but also annoyed that I liked it - likedhim. Way too much to be safe. This man, no matter how attractive he was, had been actively blackmailing me to cover up his own crimes. He and his pack hated me and my success. So why were we both glancing at each other, holding our breaths, like something big was coming?
The car ride back was quiet. We’d left the concert, me with my panties still askew under my skirt, and him with a rock-hard erection he’d tried to hide as we exited the venue. He held the car door open for me, and I couldn’t stop myself from saying something about his hot and cold behavior.
“You know, considering the fact that you hate that we’re scent matched, you sure don’t act like it.” I said in a snarky tone. Liam’s jaw clenched, and he stared straight ahead as we drove down the barren road home.
“I’ll be honest, it would be easier to accept all of this if you hadn’t sabotaged my company for years.” He said in a low voice. I sat back, startled. Sabotage?
“I’ll have you know, Liam Lockwood, I have never sabotaged you, and I resent the accusation!” I snapped at him while crossing my arms over my chest. He scoffed as if I told the funniest joke.
“Oh please, Celeste, let’s be honest here. Since we’re scent matched and all. You’ve been threatened by us since our company started. Don’t deny it.” He said as he shook his head, his golden locks still in place despite our hot and heavy secret playtime in his lap.
“Threatened?” I screeched. “I’ll show you a threat!” He looked at me sideways.
“So you think that taking your new satellite cell phone to market just a week before ours was a coincidence?” He asked, and my mind raced back to that year. Our company knew that Manticore Tech was releasing a phone, but we didn’t know the exact type.
“Satellite phones were the next big thing, even being touted at that year’s conference! You can’t blame me that Harringday was keeping up with trends!” I shouted at him, incredulous at his accusations. He gave a wry smile.
“What about the Havendell Charity? We begged to be there, planned out our marketing and finally got a space for our first year as a sponsor, only to realize that Harringday had taken all the prime branding spots! You pushed us out of our first charity event by manipulating the organizers, then you never attended a single year after. It was easy to see that you wanted to push us out!” He said ruefully. I wanted to smack him.
“Liam! I know the organizers personally - they wanted Harringday to sponsor that event for years! I finally agreed and submitted a proposal, it’s not my fault if they turned on you! They’re the ones who decoded the branding spots, not me!” I exclaimed. “Those guys are two faced, their charity is poorly run anyway! I know for a fact they divert half their donations to their own families instead. Is it any wonder we never sponsored them again?” I said with frustration, my face heating. “All this time you think I’ve been undermining you, but maybe stop blaming me and start holding yourself accountable! I’m not the big bad wolf!”
“Alright, how do you explain our biggest client dropping us to go to Harringday, which, might I add, I know for a fact was a worse offer for them?” He said, his green eyes narrowed as he looked at me.
“Can you blame me? They came to me after the news hit about your attempted kidnapping, which by the way, you never apologized to me for!” I yelled. I wanted to strangle him. He gripped the steering wheel, his muscles bulging out of his dress shirt. I glanced down, and his cock was still bulging in his pants. He was still aroused, and so was I. He kept glancing at me, so much that he swerved.
“Hey! Be careful driving!” I screeched.
“It’s hard to drive with a spoiled brat yelling at me!” he shot back, his tone sharp, filled with frustration.
“It’s hard not to yell when I’m dealing with an overbearing alpha who is just plain wrong!” I snapped, crossing my arms.
"If you don’t calm down while I’m driving, we’ll both be screwed when this car goes off the road." He said with a warning tone.
I scoffed, throwing him a glare. “You should be glad to be screwed in any form, since from what I’ve heard you haven’t been fucked at all.”
“Keep talking Celeste, and I’ll show you how a real alpha gives orders.” Liam growled, his grip on the steering wheel flexing.
I rolled my eyes even as my pulse betrayed me with a sharp, unsteady beat. "Ooh, I'm so scared of the big bad alpha barks," I taunted, my voice dripping with sarcasm.
"Careful, Omega," he warned, "You're pushing me."
I turned my gaze back to the road ahead, forcing myself to ignore the heat pooling in my stomach. "Good," I muttered under my breath. "I hope you break."
Suddenly, Liam pulled the car over, slowing down as he drove us onto a dirt patch that was surrounded by the tall grass, completely dark outside save for the few stars in the sky.
The car stopped, and we looked at each other for a moment, not speaking. Both of us were breathing heavily, and I was sure his heart was probably beating at least as fast as mine was. This moment, though I’d fought it so hard, was inevitable. There were some things you couldn't control. And at this moment, we both realized our biology had won this fight.
Without speaking, Liam got out of the car and opened the door to the back seat, crawling in and sitting in the middle. I didn’t bother getting out. I simply launched myself into the back, my hands clawing at his clothes, pulling his suit jacket off, unbuttoning his shirt with trembling hands, and ripping at his pants with a desperation I’d never felt before.
