“You haven’t said anything about him or the storage room.”
“And it’s going to remain that way.”
“You’re going to leave it like that?”
“It’s been sitting like that for a whole year. I don’t see why it has to change,” Xaine said. “Find the Sacrum Manuscripts and return them to Aeryl, and then leave the storage room as it is.” This whole mess started when he was trying to undo everything his dad had done. But he should have left it alone. No one should find out about the dirty secrets that lurked in that room.
The pod slowed down as it made a turn into the health centre’s parking dome. It came to a stop in an empty parking space, and Xaine got out. Klane followed him into the building. Within minutes, they were attended to and shown to the doctor’s examination room.
“Are you just coming off your heat?” Dr Micha asked as he placed his equipment on a cart next to the examination bed.
“Yes,” Xaine took a deep breath and tried not to fidget. The sterile smell of the doctor’s examination room worked its way into his lungs, calming him. Xaine appreciated that he smelled nothing else. “It’s been a week since my last heat.”
And it was uneventful. The service omega the agency sent came with a list of terms and conditions a mile long. Xaine couldn’t even touch the omega without fearing that he might do something wrong, which left him dissatisfied and irritable. But he didn’t complain. He was glad there was someone there for him even though he didn’t want to be.
“Good,” the doctor said, stepping close. The alpha’s scent was light. It didn’t offend Xaine’s senses. No wonder he was a doctor. The alpha gave off a serene aura that put Xaine at ease. He felt like he could trust the alpha. Did they learn that at medical school?
“Why is it good?” Xaine asked.
“Everything in your body is heightened when you’re about to enter your heat. For the best results, I prefer to run tests right after an alpha has been in heat,” he said.
That made sense, Xaine thought.
“I’m going to take your blood to run some tests. But from what you’ve told me, there’s no doubt in my mind that you have the sameaggressive characteristics we found in the alpha king.”
Xaine rolled up his sleeve and watched the doctor smoothly take a sample of his blood. “How long will it take for the test results to come out?”
“A few hours,” he said before he walked out of the room. Xaine heard him talking to someone in his office. “Please take him to the VIP section and get him settled. I want to start the treatment as soon as I receive the test results.”
“Yes, doctor.”
Xaine got off the bed and rolled down his sleeves just as the nurse walked in.
“This way please,” she said. She took him to the VIP section where he changed into the clothes she handed to him. When he was done, she hooked him up to a machine. “The doctor will be with you shortly,” she said, leaving the room.
Xaine lay down on the bed and waited anxiously for the doctor to come.
Fuck. He hoped the medication worked. He didn’t have another solution if this didn’t work. Except to live a miserable life with lukewarm heats as comfort. Xaine laughed at himself because he was already living that life.
He could accept his dad’s gift.
The omega was his if he wanted him.
Xaine cringed. Disgusted with himself for even thinking that. He wasn’t going to force an omega to be his just because no one else wanted him.
Relief was in sight.
He tried to imagine what he’d do once he was normal. The only thing that came to his mind was spending time with an omega. He wanted to do normal things a normal alpha would do with an omega. He wanted to finally have an omega of his own. Fall in love. Get bonded. Maybe have a cub or two.
Xaine wondered how his dad did it. The older alpha was a Covus alpha too, yet he had a normal life. He was bonded to Xaine’s omega father for years. And they were happy. Xaine’s omega father adored his dad.
What was wrong with him? Why couldn’t he get himself under control?
“You’re a Covus alpha, son. You need to embrace your nature. Fighting it will only make it worse. Those urges that you have…you need to channel them into something, or they’ll suffocate you.”His father’s voice echoed around him as if to answer his questions.
Xaine turned to the window, and stared up at the sky, wishing the older alpha was there with him. They might not have gotten along because of his internal struggles and his dad’s shady activities, but he missed him.
Xaine suddenly felt alone. He never realized how lonely he was until that very moment. He even wished Klane was there, but the beta was taking care of Covus Holdings while Xaine was getting medicated.
