Holi knew they didn’t have much, but his father used the savings his dad left them. That’s what his father told him.
Was it all a lie?
“Pay us back!” they shouted as one, crowding the door, data readers lifted in the air. They looked like hungry wild animals ready to devour him.
“Wait…wait … you can’t force your way into the house. This can’t be legal,” Saki shouted, standing between Holi and them. But the alphas and betas were determined to reach him. Holi stepped back terrified. “Please calm down,” Saki said, sounding breathless. They were about to mow her down.
“You better listen to her,” someone said in a dark, hard voice. Goosebumps erupted all over Holi’s skin in recognition. He’d know him from anywhere. Holi had been exposed to the overbearing alpha twice. He would never forget the alpha’s overwhelming and demanding presence.
Xaine Covus.
What was he doing here? How did he know where he lived?
Chapter 12
Xaine
“You better listen to her,” Xaine growled. He prowled closer. Anger roiled inside him, smothering the doubt and guilt he’d felt the minute he decided to go after the omega. It hadn’t been an easy decision to make. He’d mulled it over for days, and no matter how he looked at it – the omega was his only option.
Drugs were a no-go.
Abstinence. He could try it, but he had a feeling he’d go crazy after a few hours.
He had no choice.
But right now, he wasn’t so sure this was a good idea. Every possessive feeling inside him surged to the surface as he got closer.
He was going to kill them all.
As if sensing his intention, Klane rushed ahead of him and managed to calm everybody down.
“I hope you have a reason for being so loud in this peaceful neighbourhood. Its irritating,” Xaine said.
The alphas and betas took one look at him and scurried out of the way. They stood a few paces away, staring at him as if they’d seen a ghost.
“Someone speak! I’m not a patient man.”
“His father borrowed credit from us and now that he’s dead. He must pay it back,” one alpha said, pointing a finger at the omega inside the house. Xaine gave the alpha a withering look. The alpha dropped his finger and stepped further back.
“Klane, please take care of this,” Xaine said, walking through the door.
“Wait a minute, you can’t just…” the woman began, but Xaine didn’t listen. He grasped the omega’s arm and walked deeper into the house. He opened the first door he came to, and walked inside. The omega wrenched his arm out of Xaine’s grasp and stepped away from him as if he couldn’t stand being next to him.
Annoyed, Xaine took a step towards him, but the female alpha rushed into the room. She stood between them. “What’s wrong with you? You can’t just manhandle him.”
“I can do whatever I want with him. He’s mine,” Xaine declared. The simple word caused havoc deep inside him. He’d longed to claim an omega for too long. Now that he could, it was going to his head.
“What?” the omega gasped. Xaine stared at the woman, resenting that she stood between them.
“Move,” Xaine demanded.
“Make me,” she said, her alpha scent filling the space.
Xaine almost laughed. He was sure she knew she wasn’t a match for him, but it was refreshing to see her try. A lot of people cowered in his presence. She was a brave one, or perhaps she was protecting a loved one. Xaine’s eyes shifted over her shoulder to the omega behind her. He was cute enough to garner such loyalty from anyone.
Was he bonded to her?
Fuck. He hadn’t thought of that.
