“That’s it?” Xaine asked, disappointed. He thought Klane would tell him something tangible.

“Well, he’s kind to you, and he smiles whenever you walk into a room. Those are signs that he likes you,” Klane said. “He’s different from other omegas.”

Yeah. Holi was different from other omegas, but that didn’t mean he would be able to handle Xaine during his heat. Xaine could try to keep his desires at bay, but he wasn’t sure he would be able to. He craved Holi on a level he didn’t even understand. From the moment they met, the omega intrigued him.

“I’ve decided to spend my heat alone,” Xaine said.

“What? That’s insane,” Klane said.

“I don’t want to scare him away. I like having him around.”

“I know. But staying away from him. Will you be able to?”

Xaine shrugged. He didn’t know. But Holi was far more important to him than his heat.

Chapter 21

Holi

Holi finished up in the washroom and returned to the bedroom. He rubbed a hand across his chest, causing a flare of desire to pinch his nipples and cascade down his body to harden his cock. His heat was a few hours away.

And Xaine was still not home yet.

When was he coming back? Holi asked himself impatiently.

For the past two days, Xaine went out a lot, and he stayed out until late. He came back home to sleep, bathe and then leave again. Xaine was acting weird.

Holi never thought he would feel this way, but he missed the alpha. It wasn’t even about the sex. Though Holi missed that too. Two days was a long time to go without feeling Xaine’s hands on his skin.

Holi’s hole pulsed hungrily.

Fuck. Where was he?

Holi rubbed his neck in frustration. He needed to stop being so needy. He was there for Xaine, not the other way around.

Holi got into bed. But instead of sleeping, he sat there staring at the door. Hours ticked by, and his heat slowly burned through his veins. Sweat dotted his skin and heat pooled between his legs. His cock was so hard it ached.

Fuck. He needed Xaine. Holi silently whimpered. He clenched his jaw, willing his body to cool down. Maybe he should spend his heat alone instead of waiting for Xaine. Holi shoved that thought away. He didn’t have any pleasuring bots. Even if he had them. There was no way he was going to be satisfied. Not when he knew what an alpha felt like inside him.

Holi got out of bed and paced around the room.

Where could Xaine be? He asked himself, pacing to the door.

Maybe he was in his office.

Holi wrenched the door open and ran to Xaine’s office. But instead of finding Xaine there, he found Klane. The overnight bag Holi had seen in Xaine’s clothing cubicle sat on the desk, while Klane rummaged through Xaine’s desk looking for something.

Holi walked to the desk and opened the bag. His heart jumped into his throat as he stared at Xaine’s clothes. He shouldn’t feel hurt or betrayed that Xaine wasn’t coming back to the house, but he was. Holi blinked away the tears that suddenly filled his eyes.

“Where is he?” he asked.

Klane looked up. The beta’s eyes went wide as if he’d been caught doing something wrong.

“Klane?”

“He’s in the mountains,” Klane said. “He’ll come back after four days. Don’t worry, just go back to sleep.”

“Four days? Don’t tell me he’s in heat,” Holi said incredulously. Were they in heat at the same time? He’d never heard of that happening. Even so, why the fuck wasn’t Xaine here? “Why did he bring me here if he’s going to spend his heat alone?”
