Enraged, I say, “Get rid of her.”
Kai’s jaw drops. “Sir, I don’t think I should get rid of your wife.”
Gritting my teeth, I grind out, “Not my wife, asshole. Wren. Fire her.”
“Yes, sir.” Kai bows his head.
“If she steps foot inside this office her family will be looking for a funeral home.”
Kai clears his throat and leaves the office.
I grab my mobile to call Ava, but it goes right to voicemail. I breathe into the phone, not sure what to say.
Ending the call without leaving a message, I send a text to Bourne:
Me: Is my wife with you?
Bourne: Yes, sir.
I shove the phone into my suit jacket, prepared to leave, to find my wife. To bewithmy wife. But the office door opens and it’s Kai again.
“Security is showing Wren out,” he says, fixing his jacket. “We have to finish going over these financials. And it looks like Mrs. Quinlan left. I’m sorry, sir.”
My hand still around my phone, I wait for it to vibrate. For Ava to call me back. Admit she was here. Show me she’s jealous because that means she cares.
Maybe...she doesn’t.
Letting go of the phone, it sinks back into my pocket. “Sure, Powers.”

I bet he is.
