Brooks shakes his head and gloats. “I will be back in town in two weeks. If she is still single, understand she is mine.”
“I already told you who she belongs to,” Zac snarls.
Brooks bends and kisses me on the cheek. “See you soon, gorgeous.”
Zac steps forward to Brooks, still Brooks remains nonchalant.
Brooks laughs. “Be happy it’s me dating her and not my brother Cian. If it was him this would have been a different story.” He walks back to the car and jumps in and drives off.
“What the hell was that?” Zac questions me.
I ignore him, and I make to walk up my driveway.
“I‘m talking to you Sage,” he says as he walks behind me.
I look around. “No you are growling, and I don’t have time for this.”
“I didn’t ask for your attitude,” Zac says
He has some nerve. “I know it’s on the house.”
He pulls at my elbow causing me to stop. I stare down at his hand touching my elbow, he immediately lets it go.
“Sage, baby, I am sorry—” His tone changes as he pulls at his beard.
“No, don’tbabyme. Sorry, my ass. I haven’t heard anything from you in two days. Last time I saw you we were both pressing charges on the psycho you screwed.” I turn, leaving him standing and I hustle to my front door.
“You know what else, Zac. I love your kids like my own!” God, he is pissing me off. I begin to dig into my clutch for my keys.
“I love you too,” he says calmly.
“I am not a priority. I am not important to you. Well fuck you to hell. Wait, what?” I hold onto the banister seeking balance.
He walks up to me “I know it’s only been some months, but you affect me in the depths of my very being Sage.”
Shit that was good. “You love me? Like love, love, me?”
He walks up the stairs and pulls me into his body. “Like love, I wanna marry soon, and have kids love you.”
I laugh and cry at the same time. “Really?”
“I mean. If you will have me?” He touches my face gently.
“Is this your official proposal?”
“It wasn’t supposed to be this way, but this feels right? Marry me?”
My eyes rove over Zac’s face; his eyes appear content and happy.
“Would you like me to do a fancy proposal? I can do that. You deserve that,” Zac bursts out.
“I like this. Anise is more the firework proposal girl. This is just fine for me.”
Zac kneels down slowly and holds my hand, “From the moment you threw shit on me I knew you were the one.”
I chuckle, remembering how I stormed across his yard ready for vengeance.
“Sage, I love you. Your very existence brings me joy. In your arms I see a future of happiness.”
