I stand and begin to pace. “Yes, at least dad can see I did right by him before he goes.” I had the thought of facing my father’s morality.

“How do you feel about it?” Zac asks.

“Emotions are irrelevant at this point. I have to uphold a legacy and protect what is mine,” I respond.

“If your dad dies before you get that in order, what will happen?”

“It goes to my uncle, who by the way has tried to kill me more than one occasion.”

“Fuck, tell me you’re joking,” Zac whispers and he holds his hands above his head.

“Unfortunately, my friend I am not.” I think about the six separate occasions my men and I have put down men. Friends, associates dead, all because my uncle paid them to assassinate me. I close my eyes shut for a moment of peace.

“I’m only going to certain places. Like your home for example. Its technically safe.” I stroll across to the library shelf to see frames of Zac and his family in different. The one that struck me the most was the pic of Zac on his wedding day.

“Sorry I couldn’t make it to your wedding,” I was coming but we were being followed I didn’t to taint such an event.

“Knowing what I know now, it’s okay. Sage loves the gift you sent,” Zac replies.

I nod walking back to the chair and sitting. “I want my future nieces and nephews to be well educated.”

“Want to tell me more?” Zac asks.

“Ha, no. I already said too much. I may do a civil ceremony for Paige in my house. Nothing big”

Zac exhales. “Maybe everything will happen for you. Give it time.”

“Time is something I don’t have.”

“Who is guarding you? And is my family safe?”

“Kyros, Khaos and Cid are my cousins. Khaos, Cid and Kyros are my uncle’s sons.” I wait for Zac’s reaction.

“Is that even fucking wise? They are the sons of the man that is trying to kill you.” Zac sounds as exasperated as I feel.

“My uncle had their mother killed for her money. Cid and Khaos bore witness to it.” I shrug because in my mind the rest is history.

Zac rocks in his chair and rubs his chin like he is holding back something.

“You okay, man?” I asked.

“Yes, I have a lot on my mind. Eryx have you ever?—”

The door behind me opens and Paige walks in touching my shoulder. “Eryx, you promised me that you take me to St. Guillame.”

Zac’s eyebrow arches. “What a woman wants she gets,”

I stand and grab my jacket. Zac comes around the table and pulls at my forearm. “I will see you soon brother.”

“I will make time to see you. Where is Dare?” I throw my blazer over my arms.

“New York. He will be back next week.”

“Tell him, I asked for him. Okay, talk to you soon Zac.” I usher Paige by the elbow out of Zac home.

“St. Guillame emailed some minutes ago saying that my custom bag is ready,” Paige prattled on, and I zoned out.

Glancing back at the beautiful blue-grey craftsman, my heart flutters. I feel like I am leaving my soul behind.
