I let out a small scream as I held my son tighter.
“Give my son to me. I won’t hurt him.” Eryx stretches open his hand again. Reluctantly, I passed my bundle up son to Eryx. I hold my breath as Eryx allows the dog to smell Kai. The dogs listen attentively to the whispers Eryx is saying.
“Let them smell your hand,” Eryx says as he puts Kai to his chest.
“They look like they can bite my arm off.” My hands shake as he let the dog sniff my palm. A warm tongue slathers onto my wrist, and I screamed.
“The dogs of Satan are going to eat me,” I squeal.
The dogs bark and step back.
Kyros snickers to the back of me.
“Stop. Sit. This is Zeus and Titus,” Eryx’s voice echoes. Instantly, the dogs sit.
“They know your scent; they won’t harm you or Kai,” Eryx states as he walks into the home.
I glance back at Kyros as he bows his head trying to hold his laugh in.
“Follow me, Ani,” Eryx says as he walks away.
I step onto the beautiful stone tile, with a small baroque chandelier over my head. I walk quickly trying to follow Eryx. I enter an arched walkway with exposed beams, large window, another beautiful chandelier. Eryx opens the door which leads to his office, like the rooms before, only there was a row of oak books shelves and a huge ornate desk.
Three men all turn as I enter. One leans on the stucco wall with the curtain behind him. I remember him, it’s his Caesar cut. The other, still stoic, is sitting on the office sofa, whittling away at a piece of wood. The final man had his long legs stretched out in front of him, and his indigo jacket is thrown on the chair opposite him. When he turned toward me and smiled, I caught myself smiling back.
He is beautiful, his melanin was rich, dark and glowing, his smile clean and white. That beard was healthy and full. This man was delicious.
“Stop staring at my lawyer. He is already spoken for,” Eryx says.
The melanin-popping man stands and takes my hand. “I am Levi Pittman.”
Maybe if my heart and mind weren’t so consumed by his employer I would have flirted. “Anise Loveridge, nice to meet you.”
As Levi bends to kiss my palm, a smirk comes over his face.
“If your lips touch her hand, you will be leaving my house in a body bag.” Eryx makes his way behind his desk.
Levi chuckles, squeezes my hand, and escorts me to the chair opposite his.
Kyros walk in with Kai car seat, Eryx’s motions Kai to bring it to him.
“Let’s begin Pittman,” Eryx says as he places my baby in the seat. Heaven knows how Kai is sleeping through all of this.
“I have a couple of things I want to discuss with you.” Eryx states.
“Then why the hell are all these men here Eryx?”

ERYX
Fearless, that’s how I would describe the mother of my child. Mother of my child…hmm.
“To talk about us, and to serve as witnesses.”
She moves her head to the side she couldn’t hear me. “Um, if it about us why are all these men here?”
I really want this all to move smoothly, no fussing, no long drawn out talking.
