“Here”

“Why?”

“For your safety and Kai’s.”

“I saw you wipe a man out in cold blood.” Her eyes sadden.

I swallow. “For that I am sorry. He was sent to destroy me and my cousins.”

“Why? If he found out about Kai, would he hurt him?”

“No, not while I am alive.”

Her eyebrow raises. “Excuse me Why?”

Why? What does she mean why? Why can’t she agree?

“Sit and let me explain,” I reply.

It took me twenty minutes to explain my family dynamics.

“Mafia?”

“You say mafia, my family and I say business.”

“So, Kai and I are the keys to your success? I have the power.” Her smile brightens her face.

“Sign the contract?”

“What about my apartment? All my things?”

“They can be moved here or in storage. The contract states that after the seven months, I will be buying a house of your choice.” She needs to hurry up and make up her mind.

“Can I call my lawyer to review this and sign this when he is done?”

In hindsight that is brilliant, she should never sign a contract without a lawyer reviewing it first. However, time is of the essence.

“We don’t have the time.” I inhale as trying to keep myself calm.

“So, it either now or hell?”

I remain silent, my hands are in pocket clenched tightly.

She grabs the pen on the table and pauses. “What about Paige?”

“What about her?” If she doesn’t hurry the hell up.

“Eryx she’s your fiancé!” she shouts.

“Was. Sign the contract Anise” I reply.

“What if I want to take a lover? I have a little black book you know. A girl needs dick.”

She wiggles eyebrows and flashes a grin at me.

For some reason, she thinks this was funny. Nothing about this situation is funny. I feel like a rope being unraveled slowly.

In a flash I am in front of her, squeezing her throat hard enough to slightly cut off her air supply, but it shouldn’t hurt. “If you want dick you can sit on mine. Sit on someone else and you will be signing their death warrant?”
